SquareTrade is an extended warranty coverage company that services both electronics and home appliances. They have been making serious waves in the home warranty and extended warranty space because of their focus on high end electronics as their core business. Customers have good things to say about SquareTrade overall, but there were some who had issues with delays and disappointments.
SquareTrade is an Allstate insurance owned company that serves major electronics and appliance extended warranties. Here are additional company details:
|Headquarters||San Francisco, CA|
|# of States Served||All States|
SquareTrade offers a variety of extended warranty products for customers across the United States and in select European countries. Unlike many other home warranties, it does not offer a holistic plan to cover multiple appliances. Rather the plans operate by selecting the appliance or piece of electronics that you'd like to cover. Because of this, SquareTrade plans are much more expensive than other home warranty products. Exclusions / Limitations:
SquareTrade has an easy and straightforward online claim portal. It is clear that they have focused on a web-first experience so if you are comfortable and prefer online interactions, they have a sleek user experience for you. In terms of getting a replacement through the phone, there were some that had experiences with longer than average hold times -- especially concerning complex scenarios and follow-ups.
Although most customers had smooth replacements and repairs through SquareTrade, there were others that had issues. Some of the common issues included disagreements on the contractual areements -- specifically regarding multiple repairs to the same unit. The second common issue is with service providers being overbooked and missing appointments. The last item is that some experienced what they describe as a difficult processing getting reimbursements. All this said, they are very responsive on Yelp and may provide resolutions to those that voice their negative experiences, which is quite positive versus many other warranty companies.
SquareTrade vs. American Home Shield
American Home Shield and SquareTrade offer much different products -- while SquareTrade focuses on extended warranties for select products that you buy individual coverage for, American Home Shield focuses on overall coverage of various systems and appliances for one low fee. In terms of repairs and replacements, both companies are well respected by customers overall, but American Home Shield has higher positive feedback from customers overall for appliance and system repair. If you are looking for coverage on more than one appliance, American Home Shield's pricing structure also makes more sense generally.
SquareTrade vs. Choice Home Warranty
Choice also offers a variety of plans that cover more than one system or appliance. Although they don't cover major electronics like SquareTrade, if you are looking for overarching coverage for appliances and home systems, their pricing structure may make more sense to you. Additionally, they get good reviews from customers on repairing and replacing appliances and systems.
SquareTrade vs. First American
First American Home Warranty, like SquareTrade, is wholly owned by a company that focuses on insurance primarily. Their plans are structured similar to Choice. It can have some advantages being backed by a larger company because they have more experience paying out on claims. That said, First American and SquareTrade both have some negative reviews when it comes to the people feeling like they are 'nickled and dimed.'
