Scout Alarm offers a variety of innovative alarm products that are specific to Scout themselves. They offer both a fully DIY solution that is salable and customizable, and also no-contract professional monitoring services for those that want professionals to look after their property while they are away. Scout mostly focuses on home security only and doesn't have cameras yet and not smart home features, which may be a drawback for some customers. Also, their equipment pricing is a little high versus other top quality competitors.
Vivint is the market leader for integrating smart home features with powerful home security. They offer features like app control of smart locks, smart garage door, smart lighting, and smart thermostats and put an extra focus on usability. Integrating with multiple types of name-brand and independent equipment like Google Home and Amazon Echo, Vivint also remains top of line for home security with optional indoor/outdoor video surveillance. Vivint delivers in lots of flexibility.

Great purchase. Links with a large number of smart devices.
My wife and I just moved into our own place and we did our research to find the best security system that we could buy, that integrated with Amazon Alexa and that we can install ourselves. Scout Alarm is exactly that! We were a little concerned that it would work well since we have 4 floors to our house, but everything connected the first time while setting it up and has performed great ever since. There were a few doors that I need to think creatively about where to place the sensors, but the illustrations in the app gave me some great options to try out. Using it is easy, we just open the app while we are walking up to the front door or garage door and all it takes is one tap to disarm. We have a few IFTTT Applets hooked up so that keeps us from walking into a dark home. Basically, as soon as we disarm the system, it turns on the Phillips Hue lightbulbs in our living room. Having them connected in our home just makes everything easier. The one thing that was an unexpected surprise is the temperature sensing that is attached to each of the sensors. This is great when our dog is home and we need to know whether to turn on the air conditioning or the heat if the temperature gets too high or low. We would recommend Scout Alarm to anyone that we know that wants an easy way to add safety to your home!
I researched DIY systems on the internet and came across Scout in my findings and checked Amazon but the large pack did not have everything I needed. I did purchase a system through Scout, that included 2 door panels, 7 access sensors, 5 motions sensors, and a yard sign. So far the system has been working great I have not received my motion sensors yet. I wanted to try out a partial system first before going all in. The install was fairly easy but just one word of advice if you get a sensor that is not pairing it is most likely do to when you pull the plastic tab to open the connection on the battery sometimes they break so you have to open up the sensor which is very easy and take the piece of plastic out between the battery contact. The only other problem I had was one sensor kept going offline most likely due to range issues so I took my spare sensor and installed it between the distance of the hub and the troubled sensor and have not had a problem sense. I like the fact that you can assign each key fob a name to it for someone in your household or who ever. I also like the app it runs very smoothly on my Android phone that is running Oreo 8.1.0. It offers a wealth of features arming and disarming of system remotely, temperature of each access sensor and when if was open or closed. I have also integrated Scout with my Amazon Echo Show and able to arm and disarm system by voice (but note to disarm not just anybody can disarm they must know the four digit pin that you assign that Alexa will ask you for to disarm system). You can also ask for last events or tell Scout to send help among other things. So far I have been very pleased with the Scout security system and look forward to installing my motion sensors so I know then I will have complete coverage of the house. I rent my place and my landlord had no problem with me installing the system so that was a plus for me as well and I signed up for the Always on + plus plan for $19.99 a month which is a lot better then the price I was paying the other security company $57.00 a month when I owned a home and was in a contract and that was after I paid off the equipment it was $71.00 before that.
Love the app and Google home integration! The custoner support was very friendly, and helped us get everything paired and integrated
Love it. Cheap monitoring, easy set up, and a breeze to use. I added cloud cams which aren’t supported through the app but work great to monitor why the alarm went off. I tried to get it to work through Alexa but after 5 mins I gave up. No idea if that’s my error or in the setup.
This is a great system. Super easy to use and if you ever have questions, their customer service is outstanding. I have recommended this to all my friends.
Works great, I feel safe and they are fast with customer service!
Scout works great! It's very user friendly, and their customer support is top notch. They were very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.
This firm is leaving deceptive notes on doors that imply a delivery was attempted and we should call a number. When you call they try to sell you alarm equipment. The notice looks just like one from UPS.
This device is exceptional for the first 3 months or so, after which the batteries begin failing. A quick call to scout support sends new batteries your way, but what good is a security system where you have to replace a battery in 12 sensors every 3 months? To compare, the secure system from ADT with its wireless sensors only required a battery change after 5 years of ownership!
I bought this security system in 2015. It has terrible sensor battery life issues. Scout said they would update the firmware very soon, but months went by, then a year, and no update. They give customers free batteries to hold them over, but the problem with that is the sensors go out so often, and if you take an extended vacation, there's a high probability that you could lose sensors WHEN YOU NEED THEM THE MOST. When I called in today, I was shot the same line of "firmware update is coming" that I heard back in 2015. When I pressed Scout Support, they quoted a 60-day return policy. BUYER BEWARE! Amazon thankfully had my back because this company sure as heck does not care about its customers.
Nice marketing, but the product is not suitable for large, older homes. The sensors in my basement which were about 50 feet away from the Hub would constantly get disconnected. The support team was non-responsive as well. I had ADT setup about 10 years ago and I never had problems with the connection. ADT does raise your rates on a regular basis, but I'd rather have a security system that works than one that doesn't. BOTTOM LINE: Great if you have a small, newer house or an apartment. Not a good product for the majority of homeowners.

The thing I liked about Vivint was the fact that compared to most other companies they provide quality equipment. But then I heard about their customer service and I was forced to pass, but Intrution recommended me to a couple of fantastic companies that are consistently rated for their good customer service. I'm just deciding which one to go with.View More Reviews
Excellent & Professional Service, Fantastic Representatives and Service Personnel. Dependable Products. Easy to Handle. Great Feedback when asking questions!
My family and I decided to go with Vivint and we could not be happier, the gentleman that came to the house was very nice and full of knowledge, I read every detail of the agreement and everything matched up to what I was told. They covered all the equipment and we could not feel any more secure having the doorbell camera and the app on the phone!
I could not be happier with our vivint system. It gives my wife and good sense of security when I am not there.
Vivint has a great system, average service, and good people.
Make sure you work with a good technician. That will make all the difference in your experience.
Vivint is pretty good and I was skeptical. First off, I was approached by a door to door salesman. He was very professional and not pushy in the least. Best of all, he didn't lie to me. I found some bad reviews and brought them to his attention and he acknowledged them and let me know that they were usually people trying to get out of their contract early OR local technicians who are subcontracted. This is exactly what I had read, so I decided to go with the service.
I'm about a year into the service and I love it. The people monitoring have contacted me through the panel in a matter of minutes and I get text messages, emails and phone calls when the alarm goes off. It is impossible for me to miss strange occurrences.
The equipment has held up as well. Nothing has broken.
I integrated my NEST thermostat recently and it works great with their software.
Also, they update their software fairly often, which is a great plus.
Now on to the negatives. They are a little pricey, but you do get a lot of stuff and I find it worth the cost.
The reviews about the local contracted technicians is ABSOLUTELY true. You WILL have a rough time if you need someone to come to your home. It took 5 attempts to get someone to my home for a simple update to the firmware update (which turned into a wall panel replacement). I did not receive a visit, a phone call, a cancellation, NOTHING. It was the most frustrating experience I've ever had.
Like I said, I haven't had any equipment break, just the firmware issue, so hopefully you won't need an onsite technician.
We have been thrilled with the service and customer support. No issues whatsoever.
Great technology and wonderful customer service. Prices are a bit steep but the call time when emergency happens is very quick and the staff is exceptionally professional. No worse than others in business in terms of contracts.
We've had Vivint Security for a year. We had to contact Vivint once because the front door would not lock from app or keypad, the technician walked me through how to change the battery on the door lock quickly & professionally. We've had no issues with equipment, billing, or Service. They were quick to respond the one time our alarm was accidentally set off.
I personally like my alarm system. The ability to use it anywhere and set up custom actions for my convenience is great. The customer service reps that I dealt with were knowledge and helpful.
I replaced my old system with Vivint several months ago. The sales reps were great, informative, and professional. I called a couple of times with questions, and they were courteous and walked me through.Jan. wall mount went blank. Trued to fix over phone. Had to send out a tech. Also camers kept loosing wi fi. Tech said the installer used oldd systems wiring and caused it to lose connection. He ran new wire and fixed it, however. I was charged $49 for your error. Did not appreciate that. Overall satisfied.
Any issue I have had was quickly resolved. Our local support technician is vey prompt and professional.
I have had A Vivent security system for around 6 months. I have had a couple of minor equipment issues with an outdoor camera not connecting and a doorbell camera not working. Both cameras were replaced. I have found that the doorbell camera will stop working when the temperature falls below a certain point. Other than that I have no issues with the company. But their equipment is a little on the sub-par side.
