Mountain Alarm covers areas in Utah, Idaho, and Colorado for both home / residential security and commercial security systems. Their focus is mostly in larger scale security implementations with case studies on their work in education and hotel facilities. For home owners, they provide contemporary solutions with Alarm.com integrated solutions. However, you'll have to haggle to get the best deal as they aren't transparent on pricing. If a custom and full-service solution is what you are looking for and you live in the region, Mountain Alarm may be worth a look.
Mountain Alarm is a local home and commercial security and monitoring company that is located among western mountain states. They have acquired a few other local security companies over the years, which has caused friction among some previous customers. Additionally, they take a full service approach to security, which means that there is not much in the way of transparency of pricing or implementation costs.
Here are some examples of what customers say are some of Mountain Alarm's biggest advantages:
In addition to these positives, there are some complaints from customers about Mountain Alarm's service. Here's what they mention as the biggest disadvantages:
Review New 2018 Plan Options & Get The Best Rates
Mountain Alarm is focuses on personal service through traditional sales tactics, which means that their website and experience is less transparent and more unwieldy. Also, because they focus on commercial implementations as well, they may focus more on larger clients that bring more financial gain than smaller home owners. All in all, their equipment and service offering is competitive with what mainstream home security companies are doing.
Mountain Alarm's Equipment
Mountain Alarm has kept up to date with the newest technologies and equipment. They use Alarm.com apps and equipment by 2GIG and other leading equipment brands. That said, as mentioned above, because they are full service, their pricing for this equipment could be more or less pricey based on location and haggling. Additionally, there are some reports that once a system is purchased, scaling or upgrading it is difficult.
Mountain Alarm's Monitoring
Mountain Alarm has many commercial, as well as residential customers, which is a good signal when looking into monitoring services because corporate clients are oftentimes much more scrupulous and concerned about the quality of monitoring and the potential for their own liability. Aside from that, there are additional good signals about Mountain Alarm's monitoring services -- such as their use of redundant UL-listed central stations, which means that your alarms are far less likely to be missed or ignored by the monitoring service.
As we mentioned above, the quality of Mountain Alarm's equipment is good and among the market standard, but the issue is that you'll have to haggle for a good deal and it may be difficult for you to scale your equipment over the years. Additionally, it is clear that Mountain Alarm puts a major focus in security rather than home automation and smart home features. This could be a disappointment if you were hoping for one company to handle both components well.
On the monitoring and alarm side of things, they are well rated and have the check marks that you would expect from a good monitoring service. However, there are some issues in having to negotiate on pricing, which is a hassle for home owners.
Over recent years, there have been some advances in the issues around the shipping and implementation of home alarm systems. Frontpoint takes this to a new level, with extremely easy to set up systems that can be implemented anywhere in the US. They also have top of the line monitoring services and very transparent prices that are competitive for what they offer. They have scalable equipment, which is portable so if you move, you can take your system with you!
One of the things that Mountain Alarm doesn't put a big focus on is home automation and new smart home features. Enter Vivint, a company that puts a major focus on that sort of thing. It has scalable smart home solutions that with the ability to integrate your other home security features under one plan.

After 15 years of satisfactory service from Mountain Alarm, we decided to update our equipment and install a doorbell camera. Jessie did an efficient, thorough job with the updating; however, when he went to install our front door camera he discovered that the wrong sized camera had been sent out for installation. He called to the office for the appropriate sized camera only to be told that the smaller one needed for the job was not available and it would have to be ordered!!! Jessie placed a call up to John Morris in Cedar City who happened to have only one available and surprisingly John was willing to drive it all the way down to St. George so the camera could be installed that day and I wouldn't have to wait for an order to come in! By six that evening the job was completed thanks to Jessie and John! Rarely have I seen such dedicated, excellent customer service!! Our satisfaction was their primary concern and we couldn't have been happier! Great job Mountain Alarm!
I've been a Mountain Alarm customer for almost 4 years.
The customer service and support has been very professional.
The peace of mind has been priceless.
Wired our new home and provide monitoring. Friendly service. But we have some equipment installed by others that no one knows much about.
Have been with Mountain Alarm for 3 months Service is excellent. Response time and customer care is outstand. 5 star for the price . The best in Las Vegas for price.
From our first meeting with Mt Alarms sales representative all of my dealings with the firm have been positive. Installation was timely, responses have been quick, the price is right, and most of all we feel secure in their service.
If you could give zero stars I would. This company is a fraud. We used Rocky Mountain alarm for years and they were taken over by this mountain alarm outfit.
We tried many times to get in touch with them and no response. They would not provide tech assistance and when they would get a tech to call they told us that they couldn't provide any help. We cancelled our service in July and still haven't received our refund of a measly $79. They must be near bankrupt.
Our next call is to the fraud department at the police station. If you use their service stop immediately. If you are considering an alarm system do NOT use them.
I have been waiting for 4 months for someone to come out and fix a mistake that was made when they services my system in Jan 2016. It took THREE MONTHS just to get a call back, and to this day they still have not come out
Mountain Alarm took our premiums but did not monitor our system.
Mountain Alarm, based in Colorado and Utah had been monitoring our burglar alarm system for the past 26 years. We faithfully paid our quarterly charges assuming they were monitoring system.
In January of 2013 we discovered and Mountain Alarm (Ron Wolff) admitted, they had not been monitoring our system for at least a year and possibly since the advent of the 10 digit local telephone system. Admittedly, we should have tested the system but Mountain Alarm knew our dated system was one in which could not be monitored on their new equipment. They never notified us but kept on billing for their monitoring services. After we notified them, Ron Wolff, a sales associate with Mountain Alarm came out to the home and pitched a new system. The quote he gave us was not only higher than a competitor with the exact same equipment but included less features. Mountain Alarm, never offered nor when asked, to refund us ANY monies for charging us for a service they had not performed.
Clearly, Mountain Alarm was not going to take any ownership of their wrong doing and continuing on with their questionable practices.
I strongly urge you question why you would want to do business with this company.
