Most customers like Alarm Grid, but they may not be for everyone as the DIY set up may be too much for some customers.

Product Details

Alarm Grid offers a variety of monitoring services in addition to the equipment that you can buy and install from them directly. The equipment that they offer is made by Honeywell, 2GIG, and other leading equipment companies and is customizable as you can select whether you want a set up with monitoring from a central station or without (don't worry, there are self-monitoring services available for those that go without).

Alarm Grid's Equipment

Alarm Grid prices its Honeywell, 2GIG, and Qolsys equipment well below many others as a way to inspire folks to work with them. These components work with Alarm Grid's Z-wave technology that allow for extra home automation controls (door locks, automated lighting, thermostats, and more). To access these features, you can subscribe to a plan for $10 / monthly. For more information on each of their current offerings, check out their equipment prices.

Alarm Grid's Monitoring Services

Alarm Grid also provides a variety of monitoring services. If you want to work with a central station (that monitors your home for you and alerts you and the authorities in certain circumstances), Alarm Grid works with Criticom Monitoring Services, which has decent reviews by customers as well. They have redundant locations in case of outages and an average of 20 second response time. In addition to the monthly monitoring they offer through CMS, Alarm Grid also has self-monitoring options that will notify you for a lesser fee. Here are the plan details:

Monitoring & Security Quality

Because Alarm Grid relies heavily on equipment that you can purchase tailored exactly to your needs, if you aren't getting exactly what you want after you have set up your system, then there is more onus on the customer than Alarm Grid. Alarm Grid provides a good amount of selection when it comes to different systems that will work with its service. Also, there is more customization options available. That said, all this customization can be a major pain for some customers.

For the monitoring service, if you opt to have a central station, Alarm Grid's partnership with CMS is straightforward and market standard when it comes to monitoring. Their response times are sub-20 seconds and redundancy in locations good. Some of the drawbacks are in technology support and upgrading the system as new features become available. This kind of maintenance can be costly.

Alternatives

Frontpoint

Frontpoint has some of the most innovative business processes available in the home security industry. If you want customization, but still want easy set up, then Frontpoint is for you. Their equipment comes with simple to install instructions so you don't need an installer. However, it is easier than the fully customizable options from Alarm Grid. Also, their monitoring service is one of the best in the country in terms of responsiveness and versatility.

Vivint

If Alarm Grid's Z-Wave technology excited you, Vivint offers a more versatile look at home automation. They put the mobile device first and make it extremely easy to control your home's automated locks, lighting, or other settings while still having excellent security and monitoring. Like Frontpoint, it is a bit simpler to set up than Alarm Grid.

After accidentally frying my old FBII security system

After accidentally frying my old FBII security system (1990 vintage) I decided to do research on a new system. Google searches led me to Alarm Grid. Their YouTube Videos and website were so well done that I decided to give them a try. I ended up buying the Honeywell Lyric Security system, Honeywell Lyric Round Thermostat and Skybell doorbell cam from Alarm Grid. I also went with the $35 per month monitoring plan.
All the staff there have been exceedingly helpful with very prompt responses plus their website is very well organized and is easy to use.
I have also found them to be very honest and informative.
I recommend them very highly both for purchasing a system and for monitoring. They are great!
