While it says slide-in, it is effectively a freestanding. I just got this today. I purchased the freestanding model KFEG500ESS, but we did not like the knobs at the back of the unit. I was reluctant to buy this because it is a "Slide-In" range, which normally means it sits on and overlaps the granite counter tops for a clean look. I am using this exactly like a Freestanding range. Absolutely no difference, other than now we have the knobs at the front and you can see our back splash. It has a much cleaner look to it. There is a gap between the counter top and the unit just like a freestanding unit. I am happy to have the cleaner lower profile look without the need to redo my counter tops.

I have been pining for this oven for a few years now tried to buy as a cook package in my old home...got it in my new home love it...convection oven regular oven, self cleaning 2 different ways, blue interior awesome. Cooktop works wonders warming, fast boil and high temp. Only complaint is like all glass cooktops need to prevent burning of front burners and cleaning quickly if you spill.
