Kitchenaid KDTE254ESS Dishwasher Customer Reviews
Impossibly quiet!
Great dishwasher.. It's SO quiet, I actually have to walk up to it and listen closely, to see if it's running. In an open-plan kitchen, this is awesome. And the first time I ran it, my dishes came out cleaner than they ever did with my old machine. (No yellow-cheese stains on plastic tubs!) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Great dishwasher!
Installed this a week ago as a replacement for a brand new unit from another manufacturer that NEVER worked. Not even once. This unit was a little harder to install, but looks great and works fantastic! My wife loves the sanitize feature, and so far, everything that has gone through it comes out sparkling. Don't you dare rinse!
This is by far the best dishwasher ever. It cleans baked on foods unbelievably. Love the redesign of the utensil bin. Very quiet but that's just a bonus. I fee like I should work for kitchen aid the way I go on about this dishwasher [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Quiet and does it ever clean
We have had this over a month now and I still get fooled thinking we have to start the dish washer while I'm watching TV because you just can't hear it doing its job. This has more capacity and does a far better cleaning job than our previous dish washer and it was a Kitchen Aid also. Large pots and pans and roasters fit with ease and there is still plenty of room for everything else. Don't hesitate about purchasing this because the only thing you'll regret is that you waited to long. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Clean and Dry!
I am super happy with how modern, clean, and stylish this dishwasher looks in my kitchen. But even more so, I am happy with it's functionality. It is very quiet...sometimes I have to listen carefully to see if it's running. It cleans everything spotless, and all my dishes are dry when I take them out, even the cups, which used to have a ring of water sitting in the top (bottom part of the cup). I love the third rack for utensils, and I didn't realize there is a mini basket at the rear of the top rack (2nd rack) for smaller items. I like to put medicine cups in there and they don't fly around during the cycle. I am really happy with my purchase and can't think of anything I'd do to improve the unit. As quiet as advertised.
Paid extra and glad I did. This is something that will get used often and for years. Quality and quietness were the deciding factor. My old dishwasher was very noisy, this is unacceptable when company is here. I can not hear this running, truly amazing. There is a learning curve there are lots of options. I would have preferred black but with the correct stainless steel cleaner this is not a problem. The quality is obvious, I installed it myself. Steel tub instead of plastic, and the quality of everything is what I would expect when paying this much for a dishwasher. I would buy it again. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
GREAT Dishwasher
The dishwasher is so quiet and easy to use. My house has an open floor plan with the TV room next to the kitchen. I always ran the dishwasher at night due to the noise. This new Kitchenaide is very, very quiet and you cannot tell it is running. The shelves adjust - quickly & effortlessly - it also has a separate pull out shelf for the silverware. It is removable and I was skeptical about it's use but I now LOVE that feature. Silverware gets clean and no leaning over to get to it. It does have a traditional basket which I removed and put in storage. Dishes get clean and it is quiet - easy to use!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
As advertised
Owned this less than 30 days. I heard how good this was supposed to be and, it's everything they said it would be and do. Before buying you need to read about what it will and will not do such as you need to rinse off the dishware because there is no disposal in here. While there is a cleanable filter that you remove and rinse off it will not grind chunks of food and can cause you a repair bill if you don't do this regularly (clean filter) it performs quietly, you won't hear it. The run time is longer than I was used to but that has to do with a slower running motor to keep the noise down [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Great Bang for the Buck
Bought a KitchenAid KDTE254ESS dishwasher. We didn't mind spending more on a dishwasher but any increases in price in the kitchenaid lineup did not equate to a similar increase in cleaning performance, just extra frills we didn't need. With that said, I have never known a dishwasher to be so incredible. Dishes come out spotless. Every time. Even baked on lasagna pans (using the ProScrub feature). We have softened water and use the expensive dishwasher pods so this may contribute some, but I've been extremely impressed. The third rack is handy, and the ball bearing racks glide in and out impossibly smoothly. I cannot fault this dishwasher at all!
Super Quiet
I bought this dishwasher a few weeks ago and still have to walk over to it and make sure I turned it on!!! I had a Bosch before this that was quiet but this One is on another level. Must buy if you have an open concept house and want a dishwasher you can run at anytime of day! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
So Quiet!
Replaced a 20-year old KitchenAid Dishwasher with this new model ... and can't believe how quiet it runs! Does a great job cleaning too! Definitely a good buy ... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

So quiet you can't hear it working. Amazingly quiet compared to my last dishwasher. And pretty, too. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Super Quiet Dishwasher and very nice features
I bought the Dishwasher 1 month ago. Super Loving it - The most quietest dishwasher in the market - Love the Dishrack adjustable options, 3rd rack for knives and choptics and spatula - Smart design for utensils rack. Utensils are completely dried - Loved all the dishwasher features/options to choose. Pro wash is the best - Awesome look and slick design - The only cons : dish not completely dried even with high temp wash and dry. Still some water remains on top rack but I guess any types of dishwasher experienced the same thing so nothing is perfect. Overall. I am super happy and loving this Dishwasher. Highly recommended this Product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have only had the dishwasher about a month. My first reactions are as follows 1) Didn't love the handle at first. It has grown on me but if given the choice of a more traditional curved (elegant) handle versus the one we have I'd choose the curved. Having said that it's grown on my and I don't dislike any longer. 2) It is CRAZY quiet! We had a very nice Kenmore Elite (which was built by Kitchenaid) before with a built in disposal and stainless tub and extra sound quieting kit. We used to think it was very quiet... until we installed this one! You can literally start it with guests in your kitchen and not worry about interrupting anyone. 3) Initial reactions to cleaning are it is very good. Read a lot of Consumer Reports, Home Depot and Best Buy reviews. Overwhelming results of all were 4+ stars out of 5. Minor complaint, Consumer Reports gave this very high marks for drying plastics. I don't think I agree so far. Often when we empty the dishwasher we have to set our plastic cups on a towel for a bit because the top of them had standing water which when tipped spills over the previously dry dishes below. Our other dishwasher had similar behavior but I don't feel it was as pronounced. 4) Quality appears high. Ball bearing rollers on racks are VERY nice. Racks and silverware trays have nice sturdy feel to them. I opted for the extra $ to buy a 5 year extended warranty but hopefully won't need it. 5) Love the 3rd rack. Wasn't sure exactly how we'd use it but is great for spatulas, pie servers, & other larger kitchen cookware utensils. 6) Still getting use to all of the washing options. I need to read manual again to ensure we are using properly but the Pro Wash option (auto sensing) is what we use most of the time and works well. 7) Haven't had a dishwasher with a filter I need to clean before. So far not an inconvenience. Overall we are very satisfied and if given the choice would buy this again (at least after 1 month)
Great machine
Best dishwasher we have ever owned. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Don't even know it's running
My husband and son picked this out for me without me knowing we were replacing what we had so I don't know that I would have picked this one, but it does a great job even with our super hard water. The small top rack was pretty worthless to me - I never had stuff that fit on it and it kept my tall glasses from fitting on the regular top rack. But my dishes come out really clean and I never hear it running. I have to check the lights to see if it's done. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great quiet dishwasher
We really like the dishwasher. Cleans extremely well and very quiet. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Great so far!
We've only had our dishwasher for a week, but can already tell that we're going to love it! It is by far the most quiet dishwasher ever. Everything is coming out super clean. The bottom rack is incredibly smooth...the glides are much better than wheels and the 3rd tray at the top is great for utensils. It is perfectly designed to fit the maximum amount of dishes in an organized manner...great for my OCD. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Well worth it!
When we bought our house we supposedly upgraded to a quiet dishwasher. However, you had to turn up the TV significantly to hear it when the dishwasher went on 25 feet away Researched and found this KithenAid at only 39 decibels. It does a great job cleaning the dishes and almost cant tell it is on unless you put your ear close to it. Well worth the little extra money for a quality, very quiet machine. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Quality is evident
I replaced a 1 year LG dishwasher with this and am happy I did. This dishwasher is heads and tails better than my previous one. It has good smooth running tracks for pulling out the trays. The tines are adjustable yet sturdy and stay in place. I like the third drawer a lot. It is very quiet and cleans quickly. This is a definite upgrade over the one I had. Bought it for a friend as a Valentines gift. She loves it! Here's a quote: "Just ran the dishwasher for the first time. Love it. So quiet barely know it's running except when the water drains." I did my due diligence on dishwashers and in the end, relied on consumers' opinions over professional and agency ones. Made the right decision on the product and purchasing it from Home Depot. Thank you!
Quiet
We bought it a month ago and it has been perfect. Cleans perfectly and is so quiet. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
A dishwasher that actually washes dishes
I was so tired of having to wash my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher. I've only had two dishwashers in my life that actually washed the dishes without me having to rinse them or wash them first. They were both kitchenaids. One was a used portable and I couldn't believe how well it worked. So when I got tired of prewashing everything, of course I wanted another kitchenaid. The only two problems I've had: a little plastic thing fell off and I can't figure out how to put it back on or what it is for and the dishes are never really dry. but they are clean. Thank you. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
clean and quiet
The dishwasher is sleek with an integrated instrument panel. It is super quiet, can barely hear it when its on. The dishes come out spotless. Some items on the upper rack are often still wet but the contents in the bottom are always dry. A white light comes on to indicate that the cycle is complete. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Quiet
It is extremely quiet. Really like the top slide out tray for knives and other utensils. The pull out trays glide so easily in and out without any effort. Tines are wider than our last dishwasher so it holds fewer dishes, but will also probably enable dishes to get cleaner. Recommend this unit. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

At 42 decibels it is the quietest dishwasher I have ever seen. You can literally not hear it operating most of the time that it is running and when you do hear it, it is very subdued sound. To get this there is lots of sound deadening material and the washer runs for about twice as long as other dishwashers - that actually uses less energy also. Make sure when it is delivered, that the delivery drivers do not rip off the sound deadening insulation during the uncrating process. You have to watch everyone these days. Overall a fantastic purchase decisions. If it lasts 7 - 10 years and remains this quiet, I will be satisfied.
Cleans well, loads well, super quiet.
My previous dishwasher was only 2 years old, but I hated it, and I was the one who picked it out. I thought I might feel bad about replacing it when it still worked but I am so happy with this one. No regrets and I like it again every time I use it. LOVE the third rack on top. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Ninja Dishwasher!!!
Well I've never "gushed" about a dishwasher before! We replaced our old unit and it was a bit of an extravagance. The old unit still worked but sounded like a airplane preparing to gain flight. This unit is too quiet. No, really it is hard even when standing next to it to know if it is on or not. My wife and I are in our early 60's so maybe that explains it but the unit is both quiet and provides an excellent wash. The reader should note that being old-fashioned, we prewash our dishes etc. before using the washing machine so we can't testify to some of the scrubbing features. If there was a criticism to be made with this sleek design, the status light isn't just unobtrusive, it's almost difficult to see and when you don't even hear the machine working, you really need that light. in summary, the dishwasher acts like a Ninja not because it wears black but because you can't hear it and won't know it's even in the room with you! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Very happy with this product. Very quite easy to operate. The pro scrub option is great. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Best dishwasher I've ever owned!
Love this dishwasher! It's so quiet and cleans so well! I've never been so impressed by a dishwasher! There is so much space, and I love the top rack for all my cooking utensils! Such a great added bonus! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I bought this a few weeks ago. It's unbelievably quiet. Love the wine glass holders. Love the roll out tray on top for utensils. Love how easy it is to roll out the shelves. Overall great product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Really can't believe how quiet this unit is and it really does do a great job on cleaning dishes [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Almost SILENT
I have to stand next to the Dishwasher and lean over in order to hear if it is running. It also cleans wonderfully. Dishes come out sparkling. Great machine. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

A silent superstar of the kitchen. Awesome cleaning especially when using the pro scrub facility. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Great dishwasher!
Quietest dishwasher ever! My only complaint is bottom rack rolls out unless you hold it in place. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Pro look
Love the third rack and the pro handle on the exterior. The interior is huge and so pretty with the stainless interior and exterior. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
World's Quietest Dishwasher
My house is compact and the kitchen is next to and opens into the living room. Previous to purchasing m new KitchenAid dishwasher I could not do a load of dishes and watch TV. I no longer have that problem because the KitchenAid dishwasher is so incredibly quiet. Quietness is just one of the great features of this dishwasher. It also has a removable third rack that is perfect for washing my best knives. Choosing a washing program is very easy and there is an light on the outside of the door that let's me monitor the progress. This is one of the best appliance purchases I have ever made! PRO Appearance: Simple, clean, not distracting. Controls: A little busy but straightforward. Manual probably needed initially. Wash Cycles: 6 choices with a good feature set. Racks: Two conventional racks plus a shallow third rack on top. Washing Performance: Cleans dishes well. Drying Performance: Pretty good. Does best with a rinse aid but we still see some wet dishes. Noise Level: Very quiet. Rated at 39 dB. CON Cost: Middle of the price range for a dishwasher of this caliber but still expensive. Capacity: A little small. Holds 14 place settings vs. up to 16 with other KitchenAid dishwashers. Wash Cycle Duration: 'Normal' cycle runs 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Maintenance: Manual filter cleaning required anywhere from monthly to annually. Internet-of-Things interface : None. Manual: Covers 10 different dishwashers. Not ideal but it's only 21 pages. SUMMARY This is a solid dishwasher from a historically reliable manufacturer. IMO the main tradeoff is larger capacity vs. quiet operation. If eliminating noise is a priority, this is a dishwasher worth consideration for your short list.
quiet running
Runs quiet. Doesn't hold as many dishes as our last dishwasher. Racks could be designed for more efficient loading of dishes. Runs a long time, but gets the dishes clean. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
So quiet
I am very happy with this dishwasher. At only 39 decibels I can hardly hear it. The only negative thing about it is with the touch control on the inside my leg brushing by it when it's open activates it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Great dishwasher.
The dishwasher cleans well but dishes are a little wet after the cycle. The is a little bulky. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Works great
Door is too low - have to bend to close with handle. Also, capacity seems small. Like the way can load interior. Love the quiet! Better to have silverware tray in front to just drop items in tray without having to pull out bottom rack. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Very quiet. Good, not great dishwasher.
This dishwasher is extremely quiet. I can barely tell it's even on! However, we are a little disappointed that it doesn't always get dried spots cleaned off. The glasses are frequently spotted even though we use a cleaning tab that's supposed to include a clean rinse. Overall we still like it, but it's not a dream dishwasher. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
quiet
Bought all new Kitchenaid appliances for my remodeled kitchen last month. The first couple of times I used the dishwasher, my dishes were covered in water. I read the manual and it said I had to use RinseAid to make the water "dry" during the drying cycle. I poured the contents of the small bottle that came with the dishwasher into the appropriate hole. Ran another load, and It worked. No more standing water. I've never used Rinse Aid, because I read somewhere that it would cause your glassware to get foggy. I guess I'll have to wait and see. But, over all, I am pleased with the dishwasher. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Only had it for a month and it has been used a lot. Happy with the purchase. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rinse Aid hard to figure out
I could not understand how to put the rinse Aid in the dishwasher. I called the Kitchen Aid number twice and they gave me the wrong information. Finally they decided to send someone to my house to "fix" my dishwasher. He had to open a new rinse mechanism to finally figure it out and show us. I could not believe that we were told the wrong information over the phone when I called the Ketchen Aid people for help! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The Kitchen Aid product was as expected, it's quieter then the one it replaced. The people I worked with at Home Depot were also great. However, a very disappointing experience with the crew that installed the dishwasher. To hookup the water the crew needed a 3/8" coupling. adapter going from a 3/8" flare to 3/8" compression fitting but they couldn't install one because they consider this a plumbing change and told me that I needed a plumber. I know this a common problem on any house built before they made the change to compression fittings and I can't understand the difference between screwing on the coupling or the dishwasher hose. They also couldn't wait while I went to Home Depot to get the coupling so as a result it was four days later before they could come back and finish the install.
Don't expect it to dry the dishes!
We bought this dishwasher last Fall. It does a great job of cleaning the dishes......but it does a TERRIBLE job of drying even when I select the "heated dry" option. If you have flat items in the 3rd top pull-out rack, the items always are full of water on the top which spills out onto the dishes below leaving everything wet. Even when I don't pull out the 3rd rack the tops of cups and glasses always have water on them (anything with a rim will have water on it). It is very annoying to have to dry dishes with a cloth when it is supposed to dry them automatically!
Not as marketed
We did a lot of research and Kitcheb aid appliances are always top of the line, but no matter how we load this machine some dishes never are clean. The salesperson said to not pre wash as the newer soaps are supposed to cling to food and remove, but not happening with this machine. HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT BECAUSE THIS BRAND IS GENERALLY AN A PRODUCT RATING [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
SMALL LOADING CAPACITY, BUT QUIET!!
I bought this dishwasher 3 days ago. Let me just start off by saying we are a family of 4. Our dishes are pretty normal size, dinner plate is around 10in.. With the plate on the bottom rack I had to move the middle rack up to highest setting. Not a big deal at first until you try and put a salad bowl in the middle rack. Nope won't fit on it's side back to the bottom you have to go. REALLY!! Then I tried to place a glass in the middle rack, and it would only fit on the second row of the middle rack. Forget about placing a casserole dish in this dishwasher it will not fit on it's side on the bottom rack. Let's just talk about the 3rd rack for a moment. Pointless, tines are so SMALL that they will not hold my silverware. The salad tongs are too big, won't fit!! The only quilty of this that I LOVE is it's super quiet. Plan on this machine only holding 1 meal of dishes at a time, if your lucky!! I will be calling the place I bought this from for a exchange.. I'm not keeping it, way too expensive to only hold 1 meal of dishes. I hope this helps those who are looking for a new machine.
Not great out of the gate
We thought we got a good deal. "You don't need to rinse the dishes" the salesman told us, "just put in the dishes, add the detergent and let it rip". So far we have plates that do not come out clean. This dishwasher is not turning out to be as turnkey as we were sold. Now we must contact the seller, Kitchen Aid and whomever to figure this out. We wanted plug and play. So far we are disappointed. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Disappointed in the size of the interior of the dishwasher.
Disappointed in the size of the interior of the dishwasher. My old one handled more dishes and all my pans fit. Problem with pans and dishes getting completely clean. I usually rinse before loading the dishes and pans but if the food is hard to remove it comes out stained with food particles. I was looking for the dishwasher to be quite when in operation. The Kitchenaid is very quiet when running. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Terrible Product
This is an AWFUL dishwasher! First of all it always STINKS inside - if you read some reviews you will see this is a common problem. The machine leaves water in the well at the bottom and you have to remember to manually drain it after each use. Even then it still stinks. It also does a very poor job cleaning. A fault in the design allows food to enter the lower spray arm and block the spray jets so nothing on the lower rack is clean!

The first unit arrived and would not turn on. A replacement unit was ordered arrived a week and a half later. That unit powered up but would not cycle. Both units determined to be defective out of the box by the HD installers. Called Kitchen Aid but received only a "that's odd" statement with no admission of defective products. KitchenAid get good rating by Consumer reports, but that certainly wasn't my experience.
I am not impressed so far
I bought this product a month ago but we a still building the kitchen so we installed it today and the bottom plate where the toe kick area is is broken. Then I thought it looked dirty, dirty enough to read the manual to figure out how to clean. Well it said I need a cleaning solution that was not provided so I had to order online and then maybe see if it works. Then it was suppose to come with the filter and of course it did not. I have contacted the place where I purchased the product as well. I had bought the entire line of kitchen aid products for my kitchen I am hoping as I start getting each product installed maybe this should be my only issue but of course it had to be one of the most expensive products that I had purchased and so far I am unhappy to say the least. Not impressed at all and I am disappointed [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Poor Quality
The quality is very bad and it leaves soap residue/suds all over. I called the customer service, they were weak and did not provide any help to fix this issue. They sent technicians every month to look into it ad nothing was ever resolved in the last 8 months. Every time, they said something that did not make sense to me; they said to not use Pods anymore, that I had to go back to powder or liquid. I will never buy any kitchenaid products again in my life.
Not cleaning
Items placed in front corners of upper shelf are not being properly cleaned. They always come out covered with baked on small particles. I have had the unit serviced four times with little improvement. The last service technician told me to use the proscrub option and to run the hot water in my kitchen sink for a few minutes before I turn on the dishwasher. I consider this recommendation ridiculous. I want a dishwasher that cleans all the dishes. This is not the one.

The stainless exterior on this appliance is anything but. It has approximately 50 pitted rust spots forming on the exterior door less than 9 months after installation. I will be doing what I can do rectify the situation, but am not interested in the same model as I'm certain it will have the same issue.
Extremely quiet! Nicely cleans dishes. However,.........
Unit installed in my home January 2016 and functioned to my satisfaction until October 2016 when it required three service calls for the same problem within a 90 day period. It is difficult to define the issue, except, it would just malfunction and not run. Kitchen Aid (Whirlpool) was very quick to schedule in-warranty service calls and readily agreed to replace the product with a new dishwasher after the third incident, which they have done. I CERTAINLY APPRECIATE AND COMMEND KITCHEN AID'S HIGH QUALITY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PRODUCT REPLACEMENT, however, I am unable to recommend this model. I have used Whirlpool products for nearly 50 years and intend to be a current/future customer. Perhaps this dishwasher was jinxed? [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
best dishwasher
Best dishwasher to buy if you like hand washing dishes and shelling out a lot of money for 'warranty' work. Bought in 2014, and since then replaced the control board twice, heating element once and drying fan once. Most recent, the dishwasher has been out of commission for over a month because of a hoe in the stainless tub that leaked water all over floors and cabinets. Kitchenaid customer service is non existent. What they call a warranty will cost you for the service call, even if the part is less. They sent 3 tubs before one came that was not damaged, but still wont replace the dishwasher.

We purchased this dishwasher on October 28th. It was bought as an on-the-sales-floor, out-of-the-box unit. We paid to have Home Depot install it. First installer said it was missing a hose and the door made a clicking sound when opening and closing. The first installer could not install the unit due to the missing hose and further suggested that we NOT install it unless Kitchenaid dealt with the door issue. After weeks of phone calls to Kitchenaid and their local service representative, we finally got the hose. However Kitchenaid said they could not diagnose the clicking sound unless it was installed. The Home Depot install company said they would not install the unit until the door issue was corrected! Catch 22!!!! Despite that initial response, a second crew from Home Depot came out to install. Even though we now had the hose, they refused to install the unit again. The installers said that clicking sound was due to a bent door hinge. The installers pointed out the damage. In their opinion, this unit was probably dropped and would most likely leak if installed and operated. We will be taking this unit back to Home Depot tonight, December 13th, for a refund. It was a great conversation piece as it sat in our our living room for six and half weeks, but as a dishwasher, it never make the grade. Overall, very frustrated with Kitchenaid's lack of timely response to the missing hose and door issue, and VERY disappointed that Home Depot would sell this unit, knowing that it was damaged to begin with.
