Kitchenaid KDTM354DSS Dishwasher Customer Reviews

Great Dishwasher - Special Ordered But Worth The Wait

After reading all reviews we decided on this dishwasher primarily because of the ProDry feature which actually gets the dishes dry if loaded correctly (i.e. don't set a glass with a cupped bottom that traps water perfectly vertical in rack so water can't drain). Super quiet, sometimes I don't even realize it's running and I'm the the room with it. Cleans great (but I do rinse off the dishes as I load). Have had for 4 months and love it. This isn't in stock where we live and we had to special order it and wait for 7 days to get it. That meant we were without a dishwasher for a week and had to hand wash our dishes. It was well worth waiting to get the dishwasher we wanted and not settle for a so-so one. LOVE IT. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Great buy!

I can't believe how much I like a dishwasher. It is super quiet. It has a great platform for placing dishes, glasses and silver wear. The engineering is well thought out. I love that it is made in USA. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This is my first Kitchen Aid major appliance bought to replace a 20 year old GE dishwasher that came with my house. It is SUPER QUIET (can't tell it is running without looking at display)! Our old dishwasher cleaned dishes well, but this new one takes it to a new level. The small status display on the front is a must to determine if the unit is running and when done because it is so quite. Time will tell if the racks hold-up from rusting (a big problem in my last dishwasher). At least they have a 5 year warranty so I am hopeful. Oh, if your installing this yourself (as I did), don't ignore the "optional parts" listing in the installation guide. You WILL need them and they aren't readily available at home improvement stores so plan ahead.

We love our new dishwasher. And the delivery and set up was a dream. They two wonderful guys were here when they said, and had the old one out, and new one in, amazingly fast. They were professional, very nice, and in and out like magic. This dishwasher holds a lot, gets everything clean, and is silent. Also, we love the "Made in the USA" insignia! I highly recommend it.

We bought this after moving to a new house and dealing with a 10 year old sub-par Maytag that would leave particles all over the place. On the old dishwasher we replaced the poor design of a filter (not meant to be self repair type filter) and a broken handle. We finally had enough. We got the new KitchenAid 2 days before Thanksgiving (2016). Thanksgiving dinner was the real test. We loaded the dishwasher without pre-cleaning (just scraped the big bits off without water) and fully loaded the dishwasher. The dishes came out sparkling clean without any food stuck to the dishes! The dishwasher is very quiet. We don't have to turn the TV volume up anymore while it is running. It has run flawlessly for the last few weeks.

 The machine is extremely quiet

Installed this about 1 month ago the machine is extremely quiet, and does a great job cleaning the dishes leaving them spotless and dry. Had several other brands in the past, Kenmore and jenn air but this is by far the best [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 SOOOOO QUIET! Great Features

Replaced an older dw with this GREAT new one... AMAZING improvement! Very quiet, great cleaning, lots of neat gadgets built in,,, especially the adjustable dishracks.... and a top level only wash option...and it looks great,,, [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Very quiet, the only thing I hear is the water going out to the sink. Everything is cleaner than either of my last dishwashers and is great is leaving everything dry. I like the controls not being on the front. My last dishwasher would get started when someone leaned on the front, an irritation. One wish would be the display being a little larger. Looks clean being small but my old eyes have to look closely to know what is displayed. I have had this for several months and would buy the same one again.

 Wonderful Performance

Purchased this dishwasher after much research a few months ago. Was hesitant to put plastic items, pots, pans and baking dishes into this dishwasher because my last Kitchenaid dishwasher wouldn't clean them. I had become accustomed to hand washing many items daily. I decided to start trying these difficult items in this new dishwasher to see if they'd be cleaned as advertised. I first added plastic items and was amazed to find them clean upon unloading. So I next tried adding pots and once again, they came out clean. I was elated! It became a daily quest to see what I could add next. Even a pan that I had baked fish in came out spotless. Finally! A dishwasher that actually washes dishes, plastic, pots, pans and everything else I've put into it. I would definitely recommend this dishwasher to everyone.  High Quality . . . Great Features

Purchased based upon Consumer Reports rating as #1 . . . dishwasher is very well built and has wide choice of cycles to meet everyday needs. I was able to install the unit myself without any problems of issues. Best of all, the dishwasher cleans well on both racks and is very quiet. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Washer cleans even cooked on food in pans really with only one wash and is extremely quiet. Wash time is longer than older non- energy- efficient washers.

 Astounded by the Difference!

To provide perspective, my old Whirlpool dishwasher was apparently original to my house (I presume... as a second owner) which is now 23 years old. I used the old one for 12 years and it sounded like a train slicing through my house every time I used it. The whisper quietness of the new machine is amazing and I am actually excited to run it. There are so many positives to compare with the old and I truly cannot think of one negative aspect of the appliance. I research everything before making a significant financial commitment like this and none of the reviews led me astray. Love, love, love it!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Great dishwasher!

This dishwasher is 10 x quieter than the one it replaced. But it does a tremendous job of cleaning the dishes and leaving them sparkling. And it is so quiet that it pleasant to stay in the same room with it while it is running. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Great Appliance

This dishwasher is quiet, efficient and good looking. I love the features and controls on the top of the door to create a clean look. Also like the small display that lets me know if I can add a dish and when everything is clean. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 So quiet!

I bought this dish washer about a month ago to replace the old one we had that stopped working. It is so quiet you can hardly tell that it is on. And the dishes have come out spotless every time. I love my new KitchenAid dishwasher. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Early last summer my brother needed to replace his old dishwasher and together we spend many days researching and decided on the Kitchenaid Architect Series II. After he had it installed by Home Depot everyone loved how easily it was to work, how well it cleaned, and how quiet it was. The only issue was if a cup/whatever had a concave bottom it might have a drop or two of water left after the dry cycle. So this winter when my 12 year old dishwasher flooded the kitchen floor we decided to replace it and without more than a passing comment called him to see if he still loved it. That said within minutes we ordered it online from our Home Depot and at the same price he paid last spring. I am sure we could have spent much less for a functioning dishwasher but having seen how well this one worked we felt it was worth the investment and are definitely happy with it to date.

This dishwasher so far is excellent. Cleanse well and is very quiet, two of the most important features we were looking for. We can watch a movie and run the dishwasher without any interference! A note about installation (because we didn't read the fine print), this dishwasher plugs in whereas our previous dishwasher was hard wired in, so we had to have some electrical work done before we could have it installed.

 Quiet and high performing.

Early in the game with only two cycles run, but so far, so good. Very quiet and cleans exceptionally well. Be sure to check unit carefully upon delivery as our first unit had been dropped somewhere in the supply chain and was damaged. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

No Filter to Forget to Clean!

Purchased a few months ago to replace an old Kitchen Aid dishwasher that had served us well and owed us nothing. Love the clean water wash system .... no monthly maintenance and no redepositing of food particles on the bottom of the glasses on the upper rack. So quiet I can barely tell it's running. Another great dishwasher ...so glad I stuck with Kitchen Aid! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We purchased the KitchenAid almost one month ago and we kept going in the kitchen to see if it was running...it is the most quiet dishwasher I have ever owned. It washes perfectly & dries spotlessly. We LOVE it. And the price was right. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This dishwasher is a breeze to install yourself, and it is very quiet once up and running. It cleans like magic and it's very space efficient inside! Only think I don't like is how the handle makes noise when you lean up against it or move it up/down. Probably just a minor defect. Otherwise, its the best new addition we've made to our kitchen.

It is an excellent machine. To my surprise the first few times it was used, I had to check it to see if it were running. That is it is so quiet that it could not be heard. The dishes seem to come out totally clean. I like it.

 Great dishwasher

We desperately needed a new dishwasher. This one does a great job on glass and stainless flatware, but also cleans plastic well, without ruining it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Quiet

I recently purchased this dishwasher and was surprised at how quiet it is . I wasn't even sure it was working and then I saw the spotless dishes when the cycle ended. There are many options for washing and I am very happy with this purchase. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have been extremely happy with this diswasher. It does a great job cleaning the dishes. The adjustable rack features and stemware holders are great features which result in much less need for hand washing. The only negative was with the installer from Home Depot who didn't seat it properly.

The product itself is good for the price though time is the real test for appliances. I replaced a 3 year old Samsung that broke and was not worth the $175 repair charge for a poorly made product. I was disappointed with purchase online because Florida does not have a sales tax on appliance purchases when combined with installation but with the online purchase they still charged sales tax. I called the online customer service after the purchase to get rid go the charge but they said they could not do anything to help. I buy hundreds of these appliances for my occupation direct from manufacturers and vendors are always playing dumb to this tax break presumably so they can keep the extra 6% when customers are ignorant. It's a huge savings on hundreds of units, but not at all worth my time to go to the store and make my case to save $63. Installation went well but they must have forced up my counter and actually caused a seam in the quartz to separate about 1/8" so it's no longer flush. I'm sure it wasn't intentional and my girlfriend didn't notice upon the installation so there is not a lot I can do to prove they cause it but just a word of caution to those getting it installed.

 Simply a great dishwasher

I bought this around black Friday because I was tired of our old dishwasher being both loud and doing a lousy job of getting the dishes clean. Pre-washing had become the normal and having our glasses coated with water stains was the norm. This new dishwasher is a dream. We went and looked at 15-20 different dishwashers in person plus used consumer reports which rated this very highly. I'm so glad I did. The sound level is so much quieter that it's not intrusive to run it while having a conversation in the kitchen. Even the regular cycle gets off hard stuck on food with no pre-rinsing required. The ball bearing upper rack slides effortlessly. The interior is spacious and the rack has plenty of space for a variety of dish sizes. We were looking at Bosch which is also rated highly but found that their rack tines are spaced very narrowly. Too narrow for our dishes. The interior space was also much less along with less clearance height for tall dishes on the bottom shelf. The interior and exterior and both beautiful and look of high quality. Love the clean exterior finish and the LCD status screen on front to tell me progress and if it's clean inside. The detergent compartment is simple and works well with a nice latch. My only suggestion is that they enlarge the fill hole for the rinsing agent. It's hard to be precise with the larger bottles and I end up spilling at the beginning of filling it.  definitely my favorite dish WASHER

I have had 3 dishwashers (in 2 homes) over the last 3 years. This Kitchenaid is definitely my favorite. For sound, efficiency and cleaning performance I am a fan of this model. I have always done pans and crystal by hand, but based upon the job this appliance does, I'm sure it would accomplish both tasks well. I find only 1 item to mention that keep me close to but not at 100% satisfaction. I would like more customizable tine options for dish shapes in either the upper or lower rack, to accommodate salad/soup bowls without taking space away from the drinking glass rows. Really appreciate the stainless interior and shelf color for a modern and sanitary look. Great job! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Sleek and quiet

We recently purchased our Kitchenaid dishwasher. It was very important to have a quiet dishwasher as the kitchen and living areas are open concept. We are very satisfied with how quiet it is. We have not tried the ProScrub feature yet, so can't report on how well it really works. The dishes and silverware have been coming out clean and spot free. We like the little display screen on front and the hidden control panel. The appearance is modern but not as "industrial" looking as what seems to be the trend right now.  The Best Dishwasher I Have Ever Owned!!!!

My dishwasher was delivered and installed on December 27. My dishes, glasses and everything SPARKLE like new. I love the way the trays load allowing for varied sizes including stemware. The push buttons light up and I have so many options for washing and rinsing. Everything dries clear. I replaced my high end Bosch and am so pleased and much happier than I ever was with a dishwasher before. It is so-o-o quiet in my great room - we do not have to turn up the TV or speak up. One more thing, the lighted window (small) tells you exactly what is happening and at what cycle it is working. It even tells you how long you can add a an item after it has started. Love, love, love it!!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Quite pleased

This unit replaced an older diswasher. The KitchenAid is very well organized, and it cleans fantastic. The decrease in noise of this unit is staggering compared to most other units I have used. Very quiet. It is not the cheapest option, but for the level of clean, the dirty pan wash in the back, space, quality of drawers and organizers, and general impression, I am 100% satisfied. I had very high expectations based upon Consumer Report reviews, and can say that it meets or exceeds what I expected when I purchased. It is always nice to have a top-tier option that says "Made in USA".

 Consumer Report was right on

as I usually do I went to Consumer Reports which I have a subscription and has paid for itself more than once to find their recommended dishwasher for my current situation and for the best price and value quotient. This KitchenAid model was listed in the top 3 and the price was well within my budget and was even able to find it on sale in my area which saved me more dollars and brought more smiles. The machine is quiet, efficient and attractive with just the right amount of functions. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Love this dishwasher

We researched dishwashers and this one had an 85 rating. We now know why it got such a high rating. My husband and I installed the dishwasher and it was not difficult. The power it has cleaning the dishes is fantastic. Definitely no need to wash off dishes prior to loading. Very easy to load. Top rack only is a very nice feature for small loads. Another fantastic feature is that it is so quiet we had to make sure it really was running when we first used it. We love this dishwasher. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

No more noise and prewashing dishes!

Just got our new KitchenAid dishwasher and I'm in heaven. For over 10 years I've been prewashing dishes and listening to the racket of our old machine washing the dishes. Those days are happily gone. Now I just put the dishes straight into the washer without a prewash and voila...they are noiselessly washed and sparkling clean. Plus I don't know how they did it, but it holds alot more dishes than my other machine. The space is the same but they sure designed it well. I LOVE IT! As advertised , extremely silent ! 43 dBA 'sounded' like a good number , but it really is , this dishwasher makes less noise than our fridge. Nothing special to report about installation, was reasonably easy. Note that you have to provide your own power cord. Dishes are very clean. The Pro-dry does a good job at removing all humidity , which is good for a second home if you want to leave the dishes in from one weekend to the next. Note that the Pro-dry vent is on the left side of the front door , so it is unaffected by enclosing the washer. Only small drawback , lots of fingerprints on the top of the stainless door.

 Best Dishwasher I've Ever Owned

I bought this product back in August of 2016 and have had time to experience its excellent performance. Dishwasher does a very good job of cleaning what goes in it. It has features such as foldable tines, special slots for utensils, and raising/lowering of top rack that make it efficiently accommodate the particular load you have to wash. Also, you have to hear it to believe how quiet it is. It's the best dishwasher I've ever owned. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Great Dishwasher for the price

We purchased a KitchenAid KDTM354DSS4 Dishwasher in December 2016, and so far so good. It looks great, is Energy Star certified (and super energy efficient accordingly,) is extremely quiet while running, and cleans the dishes very well. If it holds up well in the months and years to come, we'll be quite satisfied with the purchase. This is an example of a highly rated Consumer Reports reviewed product living up to the rating given. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Top Rated

I bought this model since it was top-rated on Consumer Reports and well-priced. I hadn't planned on buying another KitchenAid since my last KitchenAid dishwasher wasn't very good. This new one is exceptionally better. It cleans well, it's very quiet (I can't tell it's on unless I'm very close), it does a good job with drying the dishes. The top rack can be easily readjusted up or down to fit more dishes. So far, I'm very impressed. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Dishes have never been cleaner

I've already recommended it to my sister-in-law. It's so quiet, sometimes I don't realize it's running. My dishes have never been cleaner. I used the "light" setting because I had china in the load, plus one casserole dish with lightly baked on crud. Even the latter came out almost clean, despite the inappropriate setting. I do miss the small basket with a easy to use hinged lid for the smallest items; the basket for silverware can be used for the same purpose but it's not as handy to open & shut, or to reach the small items at the bottom of the basket. I am also perplexed about how to clean the filter; I can't find directions on the web or in the manual. I did clean it out once: it was beeping and I tried everything and found a small broken plastic piece in the filter. It worked fine again after that. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Quietest dishwasher around!

We purchased this diswasher after looking at many. It is the quietest around! We have an open kitchen design- close to where we watch TV and you cannot hear this dishwasher at all!! It cleans very well and also has a variety of features! Would definitely recommend! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Great dishwasher so far

I have only been using it for a few months and have no complaints. It cleans the dished very well and it's very quit. You can stand right in front of it while it's running and talk to someone and it doesn't bother you in the least. I see no need for anything quieter. The old GE we had was too noisy to watch TV in the adjoining room. and i was tired of fixing it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This thing is really amazing -- functions exactly as advertised. It's extremely quiet, and (provided you follow the loading instructions etc.) has been able to clean some extremely soiled dishes with baked-on sauce, etc. It may sound ridiculous, but we've had the thing for a couple of months now and we still remark on how glad we are to have bought this thing almost every day.

Requires M939 Dishwasher Installation Kit & Adapter. I installed this unit myself replacing an older different model dishwasher that had failed. This unit is easy to install in an existing already wired and plumbed space. It is well made and very quiet. No issues with cleaning or drying after two weeks daily usage so far.

 Love! LOVE! Love!

I absolutely love my new Kitchen Aid dishwasher! My wine glasses finally are getting clean and have no spots! It is the quietest dishwasher I have ever had and that says a lot since I have had one for over 50 years. The dishes come out dry and hot! This is by far the best appliance I have purchased in a long time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 So far, so very good.

After about one month, we are very happy with this dishwasher. It's very quiet! It washes the dishes to be very clean. It runs for reasonable time spans depending upon the settings you enter. This was a problem we had with our prior Bosch DW which ran for over four hours no matter what setting and which led to its demise after only 5 years. So, we are very happy with this unit, Now, when its brand new. The test will be over time, whether this dishwasher will last as such a major appliance should, or whether it starts developing serious issues. So far, we have tested the various settings, even though we don't generally need all of the,, and they all work well. One great setting is the Pro scrub for larger casserole dishes. You can set the tines on the bottom rack at an angle and face the dish towards the back where there are special heavy duty jets. Nice design and works great. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 So far so good

I bought this dishwasher because if was the highest rated by Consumer Reports. It has not let me down at all. I particularly am impressed with the fact it is extremely quiet. Also, I like the controls. You can pick functions and repeat them with one touch. Finally, as expected, it cleans beautifully. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Quiet and efficient dishwasher

At first I couldn't believe my husband bought me a dishwasher for Christmas but it slowly became my favorite gift! No more spots, rewashing items, super wet glasses- my dishes are now clean AND dry with just one cycle! Best of all, it is a very quiet machine. I would recommend this dishwasher to all. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Excellent Product

This dishwasher replaces a high end Kenmore that we purchased ten years ago. We had nothing but problems with that washer. I'll never buy a Kenmore again. This one is like night and day compared to the Kenmore. Love how hot it gets, how quiet it is and how it so efficiently cleans the dishes. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Well made, performs well.

Top rated by Consumer Reports which said this machine could remove baked on foods. I put it to my own test - large pyrex dish covered with baked-on casserole remains. The ProScub feature did the job. Plus my new dishwasher can hold far more than my old one. I'm a very happy customer. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Great dishwasher

This dishwasher gets great results. Everything comes out clean & glasses sparkle with use of drying agent like Jet Dry. Using a drying agent is essential for dishes to be completely dry. The manual even states this. This is also an extremely quiet machine. You will not be disappointed. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I replaced the dishwasher that was in the house when I bought it in 1999 and WOW what a difference! I love that this KitchenAid is so quiet!! The installation went smoothly and so far everything works fine (it's only been installed 2 weeks). I bought this model per Consumer Reports' recommendation and they haven't led me astray yet šŸ™‚

 Works good

We bought this to replace our old dishwasher and the research showed it was one of the best out there. It is really quiet which is great, you don't even realize it is on. My only issue is that caked on food on dishes sometimes does not come off during the cycle. Other than that it is good! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We have used this machine three times now, having had it for about one month. Pros: Attractive; very quiet. Cons: Dishes do not dry well; spokes on dish racks are not particularly well situated (not quite sure how better to describe this, other than to say that dishes/bowls tend to fall over after being placed). We previously had a GE Profile for nine years, which served us well. We chose this model based on a Consumer's Reports rating, but now have regrets. Would recommend you try something else.

 3rd time is the charm

The first two installs of this dishwasher were duds. The first was so loud and obnoxious, definitely not 43 dBA as touted by KitchenAid. The door on the second install would not lay completely flat so the bottom rack would roll back into the wash area. Not good at all. The third install, which just happened, and I'm very pleased. Running some dishes now and it's quite as a mouse. The door opens completely. Very happy. Would give 5 stars if i didn't have to spend so much personal time having to deal with three different installations when one should have sufficed. Mike from Clark Plumbing did an outstanding job with each installation. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

 Very good but not perfect.

Got an excellent buy, it washes terrifically, is super quiet, and we are very happy. A couple things to note: The lower basket is lower than most in the past, so get prepared to bend over and reach further. The door moves harder than we like, so trying to figure out how to loosen that up a bit. The control panel is very touch sensitive and being located on the top edge of the door it is very easy to accidentally turn things on and off when opening and closing the door to fill (we had to read the instructions to turn off the panel locking feature after it got turned on by mistake). Cereal bowls don't get done and need a pre-wash if using oatmeal, but that's a tough one anyway. We have not used all the features yet, but look forward to some of them. All in all it is very good and light years better than what we had. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have had this product a couple of weeks so far and it has been great. I really like all the features on it. Especially the front display that tells me where it is in the cycle. Very helpful! It was very easy to install. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because I didn't know when I bought it, that it was a Whirlpool product and while I enjoyed my WP washing machine my last WP dishwasher was a huge disappointment as it started leaking just before it was a year old. We will see how long it lasts Features really loved are the top rack shelf, love how smooth it rolls in and out. and I hope the adjustability holds up. The bottom rack is ok, but I really preferred the set up of my old bottom rack. I should have kept that. It had a better set up for bowls and plates and folded down more. But this seems very durable thus far. Overall it's a VERY quiet machine. It cleans very well. The only time I hear anything is when it's draining.

 No issues so far

It was time to replace my dishwasher and I decided to purchase this one after reading all the good reviews. This dishwasher is working well so far. One thing that I don't like about it is that it emits a smell when it's in use. It kind of smells like burnt plastic. It's not overwhelming and I only smell it when I'm near the machine. I love how quiet this machine is and how well it cleans. It's not perfect but it's a definite upgrade from my old dishwasher.

5 Stars ... with Proper Mounting Bracket Manufacturing and Quality Control. This unit, which is a Whirlpool Brand, was purchased to replace a Sears Kenmore Elite (also a Whirlpool Brand) with a failed door spring lift cord, failed door latch, and failed vent system. The most aggravating aspects of the Kenmore unit was the door would always pop open during every wash and the door latch was flimsy at best. Consequently the door construction of the KitchenAid unit was of keen interest. The latch is far more robust and it latches with a pronounced detent and opens well - so far so good. The vent system is quite different; the KitchenAid has a louvered vent along the left door edge near the top as well as a vent "shoot" concealed under the bottom left edge at the lower left corner of the door. This bottom vent is where you can feel warmed air expelled when drying. The KitchenAid also has a far more user friendly display on the face of the door (its the dark rectangular window just above the door handle in the picture) versus the Kenmore Elite's three idiot LEDs. The KitchenAid uses real words to explain: what is going on, when it is OK or not to open the door to add additional items to be washed, when it is rinsing and when it is drying. Nice touch. This review is not 5 stars for two reasons: 1. The drain hose rubber fitting's inside diameter, which attaches to the sink's dishwasher drain tailpiece, is a bit too large and the provided hose clamp is USELESS as it is essential a "spring" clamp and there is no way for it to exert sufficient pressure to prevent leaking. It was replaced with a gear style hose clamp, but even with this clamp it took a lot of tightening with a socket wrench to compress the rubber fitting and stop the leaking. After several dish washings with toilet paper wrapped around the tailpiece (my favorite water leak detector!) it appears OK with no more leaks. 2. But the worst part is the provided mounting brackets ARE NOT PROPERLY MANUFACTURED. Any individual would have had one heck of a "blow your top" installation if you have granite (or solid surface) countertops. With Granite counters, one must install the brackets to the sides of the dishwasher such that you then screw the brackets to adjoin wood cabinet sides (completely hidden inside the space where the dishwasher gets installed between cabinets - you don't see the brackets or screws, so don't worry). With the brackets affixed to the sides of the dishwasher frame you will note the bracket screw hole DOES NOT ALIGN with the screw hole opening in the dishwasher frame. You insert the screw with the door open through a hole in the frame, then through the hole in the bracket, and screw into the wood cabinet. BUT NOT WHEN THE BRACKET AND DISHWASHER HOLES ARE 3/16 of an inch MISALIGNED !! PATHETIC MANUFACTURING - WHO THE HECK IS PROVIDING QUALITY ASSURANCE? The solution is relatively simple - if you have proper tools. BE CAREFULL with the next part of the solution as although the brackets are identical, this requires one of them to be attached UPSIDE DOWN. THIS IS IMPORTANT !! Temporarily attach both brackets and using a pencil inserted through the frame screw hole make a pencil mark on the bracket while ensuring you keep the pencil properly aligned. Remove the brackets, and place them on a workbench, block of wood, or other similar surface that could be marred. Position a nail punch and with a hammer strike the punch to leave a substantial punch dimple in the bracket. You'll find this mark to be about 3/16" inch above or below the hole that is already in the bracket - BUT MALALIGNED !! Using a very sharp drill bit (IMPORTANT - as you do NOT want the drill to "walk" given the new hole will actually break into the existing hole) drill a hole as small as possible - just large enough for your mounting screw to pass through (again because the new hole WILL break into the existing hole and create a key hole shape). Clamp the bracket to a drill press table or hold it securely with a pair of vise grips - do NOT hold with fingers as there is a chance the drill bit will "grab" the bracket and start it spinning which could cause injury. Carefully and SLOWLY drill the new hole in each bracket. Sizing the new hole just large enough for the mounting screw helps keep the screw aligned when installing dishwasher to cabinets. TIP #1 - Remove and keep the old dishwasher mounting brackets. You may find they are similar to the KitchenAid brackets. The Kenmore brackets were almost an eighth of an inch too long but metal shears trimmed off the excess. I actually used the Kenmore brackets to drill the above holes just in case it didn't work out or I messed up etc. They worked just fine once trimmed and drilled. TIP #2 - if you are replacing a dishwasher made by Whirlpool, a lot of components in your old dishwasher are suitable for use in this KitchenAid, such as utensil baskets (The Kenmore baskets are far better than the KitchenAid baskets (IMO). Personal Opinion - I always position tableware with handles up and therefore do not make use of the utensil basket "lids" (Kenmore basket tops hinge up and out of the way while KitchenAid have to be snapped out and manually removed - a nuisance. My conviction is come time to remove the utensils, my hands ought to touch the utensil handle and not the part which enters someone's mouth. I know, I know the argument is with the handle down, dirty water drains down to the handle. Really? so everything else in the dishwasher might also not be clean or cleaner? So I'll keep my handles up, thank you very much. Also, with careful utensil positioning or by using adjacent basket compartments for like utensils one can easily prevent nesting as with spoon bowls.

Check Consumer Reports, people. That's all I can say. We have loved this dishwasher, although these reviews requests come only after a few days of owning the machine. What will truly cause us to love this machine is if it doesn't break down in a few years. Kitchen Aid's percentage of "likely to break down in the third year of ownership" is 15%. Compared with Bosch who leads the pack at 10% and Samsung bringing the rear at 23%. (Consumer Reports Guide 2017) We purchased this machine because of it's CR rating, the price, the styling, and the quietness of the machine. 4 stars because we haven't had it long enough to rate higher. So far so good. I would buy again.

 Disappointing design

We maybe should have done more due diligence. The layout of the bottom rack is terrible. We have what we thought were standard size dishes, but they don't seem to place well in the bottom rack. This dishwasher holds much less than our 10 year old KitchenAid did. Had we thought about it, we likely wouldn't have purchased it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have a washer of this type. It does a great job. But God help you if you ever have to use the warranty. These are manufactured by Whirlpool. They will do everything in their power not to replace it. The repairmen have been to my house 5 times and the door still leaks. It has cost them far more than a replacement but Whirlpool/Kitchenaid still refuses to replace it.

After 10 days of use the dishes came out dirty. Suspect the pump is already bad. I’m currently waiting for the service person to show. So much for Consumer Reports Ranking!

Bought this dishwasher in June of 2015. It worked great, cleaned well, and was very quiet. Last week it just stopped working. Had a repair man come to house to diagnose the problem and discovered that the pump motor was broke. With labor and parts it will cost me close to $500 to get it fixed. It is only 1 1/2 years old and out of warranty. My last dishwasher was still working after 15 years and it was an inexpensive one. I switched over to stainless steel appliances so I needed to get a new one. Thought kitchen aid was a good, reliable brand. I was wrong.

NOT Quiet -- Brand New With ANNOYING BUZZ

I replaced my 13 year old Kitchenaid dishwasher with this model and the new one is MUCH LOUDER than my old one. The reviews were so good, but what I did not see until after I got this is there are many very recent reviews complaining about this BUZZING/VIBRATION NOISE coming from the bottom of the unit. People have had their units replaced and even the replacement has the same irritating noise. WILL BE RETURNING.

When we bought his dishwasher I would have rated it a 5. However after owning it about 8 years I find myself looking at buying replacement racks because they have rotted away. The silverware rack has holes so large they cant hold anything and all of the plastic clips for the racks are broken or melted. Several tines are also broken off. Needless to say the parts are so expensive that I may as well buy a new dishwasher. I get that kids load dishes carelessly but its not their fault the silverware holder is rotten and has been rotting for a number (at least 3) years and now. By the way if we don't pre-wash our dishes they don't get clean. I like that it is quiet still and it looks nice on the outside but that is not enough.

This model dishwasher (KitchenAid Architect Series II) broke November 2016 (four months old, purchased July 2016). As of 1/27/17 it is still not working (over two months later). The manufacturers warranty is terrible. There have been four repair appts. thus far. The 2nd appt. resulted in a three week back order part that did not fix the problem. I am currently in a two week wait period for another back order part with an unknown future wait time. Over two months without a dishwasher! They refuse to replace the machine! Don't a buy Kitchenaid or Maytag or Whirlpool warranty (all owned by Whirpool). It is so frustrating!
