Home Warranty of America was the one the realtor was going to pay for at first and then we had such a good experience that we kept them. Each time that we make a claim, I go through fairly quickly. If there’s a vendor that’s available in our area, we can get someone pretty soon. But if there’s not a vendor, then they search for one or I search one and we all agree on one. And they send them out which sometimes take a little bit longer than desired. And so far, it’s been a really good experience. They’ve covered everything without any issues. They’ve never denied a claim. The only thing is I live a little bit outside of Raleigh so its more small town atmosphere. It’s a little bit harder to find a provider. I would love to have more providers out here and have the process sped up when there’s no one close. But other than that, everything’s good. Having Home Warranty of America saves some money.
It's very easy to submit a claim with HWA. I don't even have to do it over the phone. I can do it online. And most of the contractors were wonderful. I only had one that was kind of sketchy and that was not recent. Overall we just have a sense of comfort because we know that anything major that goes wrong isn't going to drain our bank account. We are protected.I hope I don't have to use HWA but I'm glad they're there in case I need to. We have recommended them to a couple of people already. We actually just have friends whose furnace just went out and they don't have a warranty. And we've been telling over like, "We told you guys. You can make payments for the whole year. You're covered. This wouldn't have drained your bank account."
I’ve always had a warranty and it’s paid off once or twice. I always think that if my air conditioner goes out completely, that’s big bucks to have to replace it. Having a warranty is a handy insurance policy. I had another warranty service and then they quit serving the area that I lived in, so I asked around and Home Warranty of America was recommended by somebody. Signing up was very easy. Every time I have called, they’ve been very courteous and helpful. I like the service and it's easy to make a call or use my computer if it’s running. I also like that I don’t have to write a check. They just take the payment out of my checking. Last year, I submitted three claims. My dryer went out and my microwave handle broke. So the dryer was fixed and so was the microwave handle. Then the air conditioning wasn’t working right and that was fixed as well. The techs have all been great. The only complaint I might have, and it’s a recurring one, is that when I place a service call, I’m told that the vendor has 48 hours to contact me. Sometimes, that’s not convenient because if your air conditioning goes out in the middle of summer, it’s hot. One time, I needed to go to Walmart and buy a window air conditioner. I lived in my bedroom for two or three days. Another time, when they came here, they had to order a part so that delayed things a few more days. But these are not big things, nothing to make me change my mind about continuing to use Home Warranty of America's service.
I hardly ever write reviews but HWA has helped me a lot in the past few years. I travel a lot and our house is quite old, so every now and then there's a problem. I always have piece of mind that my wife doesn't have to deal with the problems on her own - one call to HWA is usually enough.
Home Warranty of America is just a provider of policies in the real estate industry and I had hooked up with them years ago. They’ve done an okay job by me on other clients’ work, as well as the brands. The website is user-friendly and it’s really easy to submit a claim because you just go online and file. We’ve had some occurrences over the past years and all of the trades that have come to respond to any of our issues worked out really well for our rental properties.
I got Home Warranty of America when I bought my house. I filed a claim about my HVAC unit. It was really easy to submit a claim. I just did it all online and they called me back. The website is 100% super easy to navigate. The contractors were pretty good as well. However, it took about two and a half months for my HVAC unit to get fixed. There was an issue. They were trying to get parts because it's an old unit and they couldn't get the parts. They wound up just replacing the whole thing. Also, they only have a 60-day warranty on their work. As a matter of fact, with my HVAC unit, they installed it in February. And then I never used my AC. I turned on my air conditioning in May and there was an issue with it. It wasn't covered under warranty. So I had to pay another deductible. Even so, it's always been good with them and I never had any other issues.
The people who stayed in the house before I moved in had Home Warranty of America. I took it up after they left and renewed it since I need it for the house. Also, I wouldn’t have all that money out of pocket to do what I would need to do so the warranty does help in having things fixed and it comes in handy. However, they wouldn’t repair the sewer for me because those people had somebody come in from the outside to do it. When I applied the warranty, I told them that it wasn’t me who did it but they just told me they couldn’t do it. That was $1,200 and I had to borrow and I’m paying it back now.But everything else is okay. I submit a claim over the phone and everyone is so nice. I like the way they talk to me and answer me, and they are very considerate. They also looked at my dryer and so far, the work they’re doing is good. They follow through on most of the things I have called about as well. I would recommend Home Warranty of America.
We have an old house and when we bought it, we were provided with information about Home Warranty of America. Signing up was easy. However, we usually don’t get the best response because of how far away we are from New Orleans, so it typically takes longer to get something done. I don’t know if that’s Home Warranty’s issue or if it’s just the lack of vendors in the area. Other than that, they’ve been working out for us and I have recommended them. Whenever I run across a friend of mine that’s buying a house, I always recommend getting a home warranty.
Home Warranty of America was offered when I bought my house. They were very easy to work with when I submitted my claim online. Their website is very friendly too. The contractors came for the air conditioning and all, and everything has always been fine. They were professional too, and I haven't had any problems. They did a good work. The company is very efficient.
Home Warranty of America was part of the deal when we bought the house and now we're going on our second year with them. We used them a couple of times and I like their service so we kept them. They're the most economical compared to other companies for years of service. I find their plan to be reasonable and I got an easy payment plan if I need to pay. They allowed people to pay for the policy in a couple of payments if they wouldn't pay it all at one time. I go online and report when I have an issue with an appliance in the house. Their website is easy to navigate and I prefer to do it that way instead of just calling. I called for the first couple of times and they were busy. I could get them quicker by going online and entering my information, especially if it was over a weekend. when it's hard to get to a warm body. HWA deals with the repair people and sends whoever they have on retainer. They already have their own people and I didn't have anychoice on who they send. Then I give a review on the work that they did once they fixed the problem and went on back. One time, we had a plumbing issue and I had a bit of a leak in the roof which didn't turn out to be a leak. But they came and took care of what I thought was going to be a problem. We have a skylight and I thought it was leaking around but it was just condensation. Still, they put a water shield or guard that directed the water to go someplace else up there. In case it did cause a problem or would become a problem, that would help. I was pleased with the work and professionalism of everybody that HWA has sent out. The ones that I dealt with were all good people, friendly, and knew what they were doing.
I have been a customer of Home Warranty of America for a little over two years. If I had any questions, they were readily available and answered my questions. And they put me in contact with somebody that was on their list of contractors, and they came out and took care of it. I just gave my co-pay. Overall, HWA's customer service is excellent. They’re quick and take care of whatever issues I have, and their price is fair. I’ve been happy with their service.
I had a house somewhere else and had it under Home Warranty of America. Recently I said to my wife that we should put this one under them as well. And our experience with them has been fine. When the hot water heater's pilot light went out, we couldn’t get it started. Their contractor came out and fixed it. Anytime we needed something, it gets done quickly. However, it was cheaper before but now, it’s going up every year.
I’ve been with Home Warranty of America for a little over three years now. It was part of the house when I bought it and I renewed with them since they do an awesome job. The technicians come in fairly good time. So, I have no desire to get rid of the warranty. I submit my claims over the phone and this last time I called was so late I kind of annoyed the lady on the phone. She wasn’t super helpful that night. I called her around 11:00 o’clock Central Time and I had to call back a couple times to get someone. But the guy that they’ve hired was awesome. He got right over there Saturday morning. I called him on his cellphone and he got it all taken care of. It was the furnace. It was cold that weekend and I had my three-year-old grandson with me. Home Warranty of America is a very good service and I appreciate their help. And I’ve told some people about them.
Every time I used Home Warranty of America, they did a good job. The people that are working with them did a good job as well. A friend had them and we decided to get them about two years ago. Having a home warranty is good for protection of the things in here like the refrigerator, the heater, and ducts in the attic. However, if they send somebody, the service call went up to $100.
We’ve been with Home Warranty of America for over nine years now. It was the warranty assigned to the home when we bought it. We’ve submitted our claims both by phone and online and they’ve always been very cordial and responsive. The repair people that they have assigned to their company have always been very knowledgeable and responsive as well. Everything has always been promptly taken care of with no problems. It’s all been up to our satisfaction.
When I bought my home, the realtor had Home Warranty of America as part of the package and she bought a year to go with the home. I've been with HWA for two years. I pay $75 if I need to have someone come out and they usually replace whatever is broken. It’s a win-win situation. The customer service is really good. If I have a question about something, they are always knowledgeable and answer my questions. I’ve used them three times and I’ve not had any issues at all. When I submit a claim I go online but I call them first and ask if the issue is covered. They’ll look and tell me to go ahead and submit the claim. They’ve always done right by me so I’m happy with them and I would definitely recommend them. I’d rather pay the monthly fee than have something major go out because it's going to cost me more. HWA takes the worry off my shoulders.
I called HWA and told them what the problem was and they sent somebody out. Our stove controlling unit went out on our stove. The guy fixed it. He had to order the parts so it took him like a week but that was fine. They sent the same guy out to repair a practically brand new GE stove. The controlling unit went out and the guy said he'd get parts and let us know or come back but we never heard from him. We will never have him come back again. So we called back the Home Warranty people and asked them what was going on. They were apologetic and found somebody else to take care of it. I paid the first guy 60 bucks for coming out here. I didn't have to pay the second guy again. Home Warranty just took care of it. The second guy took care of the stove and was pretty quick about it. Lower rates would also be nice but everybody's been fine except for that one incident. I'd recommend Home Warranty.
When we bought the house, my real estate agent requested that the seller includes Home Warranty of America in the sale. Submitting a claim is easy and I can call them or do it online, but I prefer calling. They quickly processed the claim and got it going. They asked me what the problem was, how long the problem had been going on and then they reminded me of my deductible. They told me who the person that they have recommended to come out and gave me the contact information of that person. They also told me that if I don't hear from anyone after a certain amount of time, then to call the person too. Except for one incident, dealing with the contractors has been good. My furnace went out and the contractor came out to fix the furnace. A day or two later, they called and told me that Home Warranty was going to cancel my policy because the furnace was dirty and if I don’t want them to cancel the policy, I need to get the furnace cleaned. They tried to sell me something and I didn’t like that. It was the end of winter, so our furnace was dirty.I had to work nights and I was tired of the furnace people calling me so much. By the time HWA called me, I told them that whatever they're going to do, just cancel the policy because I’m tired of everyone calling and waking me up. Their rep said that she's not calling to cancel my policy and just wanted to let me know that any maintenance I do would be out of my pocket. If I get my furnace cleaned, they won't cover it. I know they didn't cover that. The threat that the furnace contractor gave me was not real and HWA said they didn’t say that to them. I’ll call HWA in the future if I have anything to do with the furnace or air conditioner. I wouldn’t want them to use that company for me. There was a time with my refrigerator when they had to recall the contractor back in. However, they replaced the refrigerator. Other than that, everyone that has come by here has done good, quality work. Being a single woman, I don’t have time to look and search for tradesmen and then try to figure out who’s not going to rip me off and who’s going to overcharge me. I like that HWA covers so many things and if I had an issue I can call and get someone out within the 24-hour period. I recommend them.
I had no trouble filing a claim to Home Warranty of America and they took care of it to my satisfaction. I had good service from them and their price was fair. Last year, our air conditioner kept going on and off. It would go on at night and then during the day when it was hot, it would go off. So I called up Home Warranty and they sent a repairman over. They diagnosed it and fixed it. I just had a good experience with Home Warranty so I would stay with them. They are a good outfit to go with if you're looking for a home warranty.
Signing up with Home Warranty of America was easy and I had a good experience with their reps. I recently filed a claim for my microwave because the switch on its door went out and it kept the unit from turning on. The technician came out after four days and then, he couldn’t fix it and I had to wait another week because he ordered the part. But the technician was good and the microwave is like new since the repair. I would recommend HWA to a friend. But I would also tell my friends that there's a chance that they might be out in a short period of time and then there's a chance that they may not be out. The vendors that HWA uses should be able to get out a little bit sooner than what they do.
It's very easy to submit a claim at Home Warranty of America. Sometimes there are wait times, but it's nothing major and the reps are excellent. The techs that have been sent were excellent on all calls too. Home Warranty of America was a recommendation from our realtor and I have recommended them to some friends.

A real estate man mentioned getting a home warranty and it’s been four years since we first signed up with Home Warranty of America. I bought this condo for my daughter and she didn’t have much money so I figured in case something goes wrong, I will have it covered. It was easy to sign up for the service. I’ve talked to the sales rep couple of times and she was very accommodative and knowledgeable. She explained what was covered and what wasn’t covered and the $100 deductible. We submitted a claim about washer a couple of years ago. Their rep sent someone over right away and they took care of the issue. The contractors have been very accommodative as well and the quality of service has been good.
We had a water leak which flooded the house this past summer and Home Warranty of America took care of it. It was the water line coming into the house from outside and busted in the wall. It was a nightmare. We had to have all the carpet and floors redone. Everything was taken out of the house and big blowers and dryers were brought in and we wound up in a motel for about a month. The technicians were good and took care of it real fast. It’s always been a good experience with Home Warranty of America. Everything that was ever had to be done was done in a big hurry.
A friend of mine recommended Home Warranty of America and I’ve had them for about seven years now. Claims submission was really easy. I went to their site where it was indicated that I wanted to file a claim, typed in the information, answered their questions about what was going on with their plans and they contacted me, assigned a claim number and sent a personnel to fix the problem. It was all straightforward and I was very pleased. The people who were sent out were very helpful. They let us know exactly what was going on and let us know if there was a problem like if it was something that they couldn't fix right away. Yesterday, someone came out and he was very respectful. He fixed my oven which took about two minutes, I signed the paper, paid him and he left. I would highly recommend Home Warranty of America to any of my friends and tell them to look into this because it is really great. They do exactly what they say they would and as long as items that break down are included in your package then you don’t have any problems.
I’ve had nothing but a pleasant experience with Home Warranty of America. They were recommended by my realtor and it was very easy signing up online for their service about a year and four months ago. When I had a GFI that tripped at my garage, they found me an electrician who was professional and quick. The plug has been fine since then. Claim processing was also easy and the rep was very helpful. I would’ve liked to have them suggest some options too, like talk to somebody on the phone that could tell me what to check.
Our purchase contract for the house when we bought it in 2006 included a one year of coverage for the appliances by Home Warranty of America, and then we extended the service. It has been useful because we have had a few problems and it saved us the need to buy a new appliance, like the washer for clothes and the dishwasher, so the experience has been good. Also, the charge was reasonable and we have had some services during the period that were still active and we wanted to continue. We did the renewal process through the internet and it was very easy. Our last claim was for the heater of the kitchen that had some electric problem and a guy came to fix it. Before that, the dishwasher was leaking. Everything has been fine with all the contractors who have been sent.
When I thought about what could go wrong such as my air conditioner and having to pay thousands of dollars versus only paying the deductible if I have a home warranty, I'd rather pay $75. When we lived in Maryland over 20 years ago, I selected Home Warranty of America because they covered more household items. They seem to be more friendly when I called and inquired about the coverage they have. Also, submitting a claim was always nice. When I do it over the phone, the reps were very knowledgeable of the product I’m speaking of and how to handle things. Their customer service skills were wonderful as well. They would give me the name of the company they’re going to send and if I don’t hear from that company within a certain width of time, they would give me the phone number and I can call and everything has always been just as they say. Sometimes, I submit a claim online and that's tough. It takes longer for me to do it because I have to make sure I read everything the system asked for and sometimes I get frustrated with it and just call in. It’s easier and quicker. Generally, out of all the people they’ve sent for different products, I want to contact those technicians from that particular company any time something like that happens rather than calling into a claim. For instance, my pool pump went out and we have a pool company that cleans our pool all the time and they do repairs. They were going to charge us over $3,000 for a particular pump on the pool. I called Home Warranty of America, did a claim, and the technician they sent came in and fixed it up for me. He cut out certain parts and charged the $75 deductible and the pool pump worked fine ever since. For the last four years, every year, the ice-maker in my GE refrigerator would break and not make ice. I would call in, have somebody come and repair it. I asked them to send in a GE person who would know their product more than any regular refrigerator repair guy. They sent the guy in from GE and he fixed my ice-maker. So far, I haven’t had any problems and it’s been three years ago.
Home Warranty of America came with the house that I purchased as it was covered by the seller. I've been using it for three years now, and I have availed of their service twice. My experience in online claim submission was good, and everything was reasonable. I did not have to wait for weeks. They charged a $60 fee, for example. My dishwasher went bad, so they fixed it. And then it went bad again, so they replaced some water – it was all covered. Then there was a kitchen sink motor that went bad, and they replaced it too. They were helpful based on the experience so far, and the contractors they have sent out were very professional. It has been pleasant, so I’ve been referring to my friends.

Signing up for the service was easy and interactions I've had with their reps were pretty satisfactory. They're courteous with good professionalism. I bought my home two years ago, and the realtor told me about Home Warranty of America. The reps walked me through the sign-up and then I renewed my contract again last year. Recently, something was wrong with one of the coils in my sink and it was leaking underneath. Everything was good when I called. However, I was misguided when I got the warranty. I thought the deductible was $100 or $50, and they always advertise that you get two or three things done at one time. I'm having a problem with my washer also, and when I called it in for my sink, I said I could do them both together but they're two different things, so that would be two different deductibles and I don't have the money to do the washer.On the other hand, I was taken care of right away and the two guys that came out to help me, Jack and Zack, were 100% on target. They were fabulous, dressed clean, professional, spoke clear English, and did exactly what they came to do. I would recommend them. I have only used them one time, but what had been done was good.
Home Warranty of America has been good. It's pretty easy to submit a claim. I just go online and type it up, then within a couple of hours, a contractor would contact me. But recently, I had a problem with the dishwasher timer and it took a day for them to get back to me since Sears decided not to do appliance service. Apparently, Home Warranty was having trouble getting appliance people in Bartlesville. A guy eventually came who said, "I come to Bartlesville all the time. I don't know why they have trouble getting in touch with me because I'm here. They're not calling me." Other than that, he's been good and has ordered the part. I would recommend Home Warranty of America.
With my recent experience with Home Warranty of America on my pool issue, it went just as I expected it. I was very satisfied the way they handled everything. The company that came by were great, very professional, timely and they knew what they were doing. I've had someone here before for the pool and they were awful.
I bought a home and my realtor suggested that I get a warranty. The house was 12 years old. It was in really good condition but she said considering it was over 10 years that the contractor wasn’t going to do anything to get it and she suggested Home Warranty of America. The seller went with it as well and I renewed this year. They were a bit pushy. They kept telling me I had to renew and it’s three months out. And it’s like, “No. I don’t have to renew. I know when I need to.” I understand it’s business and they want to make sure that I sign up with no problems and when I decided to renew my contract there was no problems whatsoever. I’ve only had one claim denied and that was for the garage door. It had gotten hit and because it had gotten hit they didn’t okay it because it wasn’t wear and tear. I didn’t hit it but that’s okay. And by the time I would’ve submitted it to the insurance it was just easy to pay for it. But there's been no problem with everything else that I have submitted. They come out and it’s a $60 service fee. They assess the situation and then they tell me what’s wrong with it. And they let Home Warranty know and Home Warranty then okays it and they fix it. They’re very competent and very efficient. A couple of the vendors they have chosen have refused to come out or can’t be reached so there’s a little bit of a time delay to get somebody out. But that’s not Home Warranty’s fault. That’s the vendors and that’s just business. But mostly everyone who has come out had been proficient, very knowledgeable. They do their job and they’re skilled. I was advised by some friends who have had homes for a number of years that since it had central heating then I should get it maintenance every six months. I can’t crawl up there and change the screens so I had a company come out and they tried to tell me that the system was bad and I needed a whole new system. I called Home Warranty. They sent someone out and they said, “Nope. All you need is some new Freon and that the switch for the furnace wasn’t working correctly.” I would recommend Home Warranty of America without a doubt. I don’t have the platinum, the top-of-the-line policy but they are a little more expensive than some of the others that are out there but I think I'm getting my money’s worth.

I can either call or go online and put a claim in but I have problems with internet service where we're at so I usually call in to submit a claim and I find it easier because their guys can look right away and see if the claim is covered by the warranty or not. Their technicians were very good, very professional and attentive. We've had a local plumber that we've had here a couple of times and an electrician we had out last year that we called and did other work on our house. They always get back to us if we were waiting on something and they send me an email notice right away that they've put the claim through. I'd tell my friends that Home Warranty of America provides a good service.

And we had a very good experience when we submitted a claim over the phone. They replaced the whole furnace and the installation team was very good. My wife took care of the renewal and it was easy. We had an issue with our washing machine that they're fixing right now. Submitting a claim for it has been easy and within a couple of days, they showed up and looked at it. So far, we’ve had a really good experience with Home Warranty of America. I would definitely recommend this company.
I was introduced to HWA company when we bought this house three years ago. They foresee I would need them. The representative came over and did an excellent job. Just before Christmas we called them because our heating system was not giving enough heat. The man came over, he looked at it and said there’s nothing wrong with it. So I gave him the $100 and he left. It was a business holiday. Everybody was busy and he did not get involved with a big job. Right now we have the oven on to get enough heating here. I was planning to call to tell them about it because it appears from past experience in my other house every time there was a problem similar to this the plumber will bleed the pipes. And I told him that’s what he needs, to bleed the pipes. He says, “No, it doesn’t. Everything is fine.” So I gave him $100 for nothing. Perhaps they can send somebody who is very experienced with plumbing and somebody who will not feel too laid back to go and to work of bleeding the pipes. Maybe that man didn’t want to get involved because bleeding the pipes takes a couple of hours. Also the wait when I call in a claim is within half an hour. But they treat me fine. Also when they came for the washing machine I had no problem at all. It was a pleasure.
The realtor suggested HWA for our home and explained it to us. The seller of the house provided the warranty for us for the first year and then we continued on. I've called in three claims to HWA and the last contractor I had was absolutely fantastic. They were very quick and they really knew what they were doing. Everything was taken care of right away so it didn't slow us up on leaving town for the winter.

He had availability that day but I don't have so we scheduled it at a convenient time. Also, when I've had any issues, there has been a good follow up.
When we purchased the home, HWA was a gift from my Realtor so we just renewed it and kept going. The renewal was a very simple process. We got a notification by email and I had set up our account online. I tried to do the renewal online but I had an issue with that. I thought it would be quicker to go online, put in the order, and be done with it. But it would not go through. It just kept saying the system was down or, "We can't process your order at this time." That was a little frustrating because it was late in the evening when I was doing it. But once I called in, it was fine. It was just the process of actually having to call and go through the automated service to do it when I could have just processed it online and had it done. I had a service call for a water heater and HWA sent contractors out. They had to change out the thermostat on the hot water heater and everything has been going well. The tech was very nice, very friendly, and very professional. He came right in, got the job done, and wrote up the ticket. Everything was handled professionally.
A friend of mine had HWA and I personally think they're okay. My only problem are the suppliers that are not local. They use somebody 60 miles away from their office but they have a local guy that lives in the area that would take care of the job. My water heater leaked once and they couldn't fix it for a week and I got stuck. However, when they do have somebody, they do a good job. I also wish that they list what's covered and what's not in their contract which would help the consumers.
I've had Home Warranty of America since 2009 and the experience overall has been good. I have access to either call or go online to file claims. They call me usually within the next day to let me know who it is that was assigned. They also give me the contact information. The vendors have been consistent as well. But the fees have increased twice since I’ve had it, and though I would like it to be cheaper, it is what it is. At the end of the year, they tell me how much I saved if I had not had the warranty. So when you look at what you saved versus the increase, then it’s okay. I've told one friend about HWA ‘cause she had another warranty company and she was having problems with it. I told her who I was using and to check them and see how would they compare to who she currently has.
When I purchased my house, the people who gutted and rehabbed the house gave me Home Warranty of America. I've been with them for 7 years. When my refrigerator went out on me, there was so much confusion because if Home Warranty can't fix it, they'd have to replace it. I went through a lot of drama for them to replace it. I had to keep calling back and call different people just to get what I needed that was in that contract. I went through changes when I could've just been able to go to someone and they should have been able to fulfill what was written. And it only took a minute for Home Warranty to do what they needed to do. Something that should have taken at the most a month went to almost three to get the replacement done.It made me nervous after that I actually went searching for another type of home warranty. But the competition out there was either on the same page or not even as good. I tried to reach someone on higher ground at Home Warranty when I was not getting the response I needed from customer service, but I couldn't reach anyone there. The managers didn't come to the phone and they didn't talk to me. A lot of things they wanted to do over the computer system by texting which was not always the correct way. I was spending my money and nobody wanted to be accountable. I was entitled to what was promised in that contract. But it was like everybody backed out. I got a voicemail but nobody called me back which was strange.I looked online and I discovered that the people who originally owned Home Warranty didn't own it anymore, sold to somebody else. I went digging for who to talk to because my claim was not getting resolved and my refrigerator was still broken. And when I went back to the person who I originally dealt with in sales, she put me in another department and I felt like Dorothy in the land of Oz. I was like a dog chasing its tail. It wasn't a good experience but it wasn't my nature to back down. Home Warranty of America should have better communication when something goes wrong and they should definitely have a force one can go to and it's fulfilled. But other than that experience, I have recommended Home Warranty.
I have had pretty good luck with Home Warranty of America. They were referred to me by my realtor and it was easy to submit claims. It can be done either online or via phone. I usually call just because I’m old-fashioned. The reps are very nice and very cordial. They try to do the best they can to help me. Sometimes, I question the vendors that they use but they will send another one out if I had a bad experience with a vendor so it worked. I have been a happy Home Warranty of America customer for seven years now.
When we bought our house, Home Warranty of America came as part of the package. It was easy to renew it. We called them and they have always been friendly. Most of the time, submitting a claim has gone well. We did have one where it was submitted and the person was no longer with them and it took 0a day. It took a while to figure out so then they had to resubmit. Most of the times, it’s been good but that was a definite bomb. But someone did finally come out to help so it got resolved. We’ve had Home Warranty of America out for several different items by now and everything has been working smoothly with whatever we had repaired. We've been overly satisfied.
Being a homeowner has a lot of responsibilities and a lot of unexpected expenses. Home warranties help to mitigate those expenses when they are completely unexpected versus planned maintenance and things that you know you are going to get hit with. Home Warranty of America was the warranty company that had been included when we purchased the house. Whenever we submit a claim, we just call them and they send someone out. There are times when the allowable expenses are not exactly what I think they should be. But all in all, aside from price, I can’t complain. We have been fairly happy with all the contractors that have been assigned to our claims.
When the house was bought, Home Warranty of America came with it. The seller paid for the first year and we just keep renewing it because if something broke on the house, it would be cheaper and easier to deal with through HWA. So far, we have submitted a claim twice. We had a renovation and after we had some plumbing work, when they turned the gas and the water on, the hot water heater went out. So HWA came in and replaced it. Then there was trouble with the washing machine. They came out and fixed it but a couple of days later, it went out again. That went on for about eight months until finally, they replaced the washing machine. It was very frustrating because they kept sending people over and it was a long process. There was also a lot of miscommunication between their reps. They told me they talked to this person but when I called that person, I was told that nobody has called them. So it was kind of going back and forth. Other than that, we're glad to have HWA.
I filed a claim over the phone for my garbage disposal and the representatives were nice and polite. I’ve had stuff done before with Home Warranty of America. I got them when I bought my house. I also had another home warranty company when I bought my other house. They are equal except that my other home warranty didn’t cover any plumbing underneath the concrete in my other house because it was a slab. All the other experiences I had with the technicians or contractors were good but I wasn’t too happy with the ones that came out and replaced my toilet. They replaced the toilet upstairs and redid the flooring. They were supposed to fix the ceiling because the water had gone through it and to the kitchen floor but they just painted over it. I called them back out twice. They were speaking English and when I walked by, they were speaking Spanish and it really pissed me off. I would recommend Home Warranty of America to a friend but I would tell them to not ask for anybody who they can’t understand.
My friend told me about Home Warranty of America and signing up for the service was okay. But sometimes, the claims process can be difficult. I had to call three times because they said they were sending someone out but it didn’t happen. When I called back on a Saturday morning, they said there wasn’t going to be anybody available until Monday. The claim was for our air conditioner and I wondered why they had scheduled somebody who didn’t work during the weekend. They advertise that they're available 24 hours, seven days a week, so it should be the type of performance that they put out. And they should be looking for people that are going to be able to work on the weekend. We shouldn’t have to be inconvenienced. Other than that, once the repair was done, our AC's performance has been okay.
I was with American Home Shield first and sent a repairman for my double oven. The man replaced the part. He didn't screw it in tight enough, and it blew my whole Thermador oven, which is a very expensive oven. When I told American Home Shield that, they could only give me a fraction of it because I've had it a few years. But I couldn't go and get another Thermador oven. So, they replaced it with some other brand. So, I got rid of them, and I came to Home Warranty of America. So far, they're okay. I try not to use them as much as possible, but they're a good company. They aren't as easy to deal with as American Home Shield was, but so far, the people that they've sent out are someone to fix your things.The electrician they sent out was Garrity Electric. The guy was good. I wound up having to pay for the job myself because it had to do the electrical outside before you can even do the inside part, that would be covered by Home Warranty, but he was excellent. So much so, I recommended someone use him a few months later. Then they told me he's no longer with Home Warranty of America, which was disappointing because I could still use him now.
It was easy to sign up with Home Warranty of America. Submitting a claim requires zero effort and I typically do it over the phone. The quality of service has been okay and everything works out fine.
My husband and I are both disabled so if something breaks down, we can't fix it ourselves. Signing up for Home Warranty of America was easy. And their price was good but I'm annoyed that it goes up every year. We've been with them for three years and we started out with $49 and now, we're up to $79. It is a little disturbing, and when I called in for someone, the copay went up, too.When I called them the first time for the water heater that went out, they refused to fix it. It was an original water heater from 1989 and at that time, it was leaking all over the garage and it was rusted on the inside. They said it was too old. There are little glitches and it was not covered but all companies do the same thing. My pastor ended up hooking up a new water heater for me. I also had a hard time getting a plumber the first time because they didn’t have any plumbers in my area and they wanted to send some guy from Florida who didn’t want to come up from there. So, I told HWA that they got to find me a local plumber and there was a guy up the road that I could call. So, they signed him up and now, whenever I need a plumber, I know they can contact him and he is two minutes away. He's good and I like him. I would tell my friends that I'm happy with HWA.
My realtor purchased a policy from Home Warranty of America for me as a gift when I closed on my house, so I got my first year for free. I have been with them for four years, and renewing was simple. It's an auto-renewal and I get a notification for it. The times I've used it has been beneficial. I've done four claims and I've both called in and did it online. The representative I've talked to had been very friendly and answered all the questions I had.I made a claim recently for my garbage disposal that wasn't working. I did it online and followed the prompts. And then once I've finished, I got a notification that it had been assigned to a company. And they contacted me within the time that the home warranty said they would. My first appointment was Wednesday last week and they didn't make it on time. But when I called to confirm, they let me know that the technician was going to be late and I could reschedule if I wouldn't be able to meet them at the time that they were projected to be here. They rescheduled me for the next day. And when I've made the reschedule, the lady told me that the technician is a seasoned tech and is very punctual. She was true to her word that he was punctual. The tech got to my place, made the repair and completed everything before my scheduled appointment time. He was in and out before 10 o'clock. I haven't taken advantage of it as much as I should have or would have liked to, but I plan on using Home Warranty of America a little bit more this upcoming year.
When I submit a claim with Hone Warranty of America, I call them up and t tell hem what the problem is. Then they give me a claim number and t ell me who's going to be calling me. They also give me the contractor's phone number so that if I didn’t hear from them, I could contact them. Then they tell me the cost for the visit which is at $75 now. I usually hear from the person on the same day and they make an appointment. Then they come and fix the problem. Last year, my air conditioner went out. It was 122 degrees here and I lived on a portable air conditioner in my family room that was attached to my kitchen. It was hell. I had the news people here and I was on the TV. But once the contractor finally figured out that they were at fault, they got it fixed. But it took them a week. I’m 71 years old and that was a long time for this old body to be in that kind of heat. Other than that, Home Warranty of America have always done me well and I’ve never had a problem with them. Everything has always been fixed and they replaced like with like. I had a fan out in my bathroom that has a heater on it. When it was broken, the person was going to just put in an exhaust fan. But I told them not to do that so they gave me the correct unit which was a heater and an exhaust on it. So Home Warranty of America live up to what they say they’re going to do.
We had a water leak and we called on a weekend but the people that Home Warranty of America called didn't work on weekends so, we didn't get anyone to call us until Monday. The appointment was set up on Tuesday and the person that was sent out didn't have the equipment that he needed to detect our problem so, they sent someone out for another day, but they still were not able to find it. They had to do a more extensive test to identify what the problem was. In addition, we had an issue with our conditioner a couple of years ago and I knew a lot of people said that they wouldn't replace but will just fix it. They replaced the AC and we didn't have to go through hoops trying to get something broken replace and we were appreciative of that. Overall, they've been pretty good.
My husband started us up with HWA and we've had it for some of our other homes. They offer a little better deal than the others. When my husband was still alive, we used the warranty for our dishwasher then for water heater last year. Both of the techs who serviced us have been good and the guy that did the water heater was really nice.
I bought a new home a year ago and the real estate agent recommended and signed me up with Home Warranty of America. I renewed it and the process was easy. To submit claims, I had to call and tell them the problem. But I had a claim that they took about 4 months, which was too long. I called 3 times and when I called they asked me the same questions like they didn't even know anything about it. In the end, they replaced the unit and so far my experience has been good. They're prompt in the response but taking care of the claim after is a little bit slow.
Home Warranty of America was included as part of our house purchase in 2009. All I had to do was call them and give them my information associated with the contract and set up the online account. It has renewed automatically each year since then. Our experience has been very good. It’s managed entirely online. We’ve used them several times and in all cases, the claim was submitted online. I can get service within 24 hours and for extreme requirements, the technicians were prompt in getting out and haven’t had much in the way of complaints about the service that I’ve got. I consider HWA a satisfactory investment.
Our other home warranty was expiring so we got Home Warranty of America because they had an offer in pricing and because of the coverage they have. I’ve had it for a few months but we really haven’t had any problems in using HWA.
I’m very glad that I have Home Warranty of America. The warranty was included in the purchase of my home. I moved here from New Jersey and I had another warranty provider there, but I'm having a better experience with HWA. In fact, I just upgraded my plan. I’ve only been living in this house for a little over a year and, unfortunately, I had to put a couple of claims in. I had to use the warranty for a washing machine which had to be repaired and I’ve also called them in for a heat pump. Then our hot water heater had to be replaced.HWA had been very quick to assign the claims and get somebody out here. But there’s a break down between the vendor and them sometimes when it goes to the prioritization part of it. That’s on the vendor, though, and not on HWA. Also, HWA is not local, so they don’t know the local vendors. They’d just go by what people have used and had some good experiences with. I’d always go to Angie’s List to do a double check. Sometimes, I’d see that the vendors do not have a good rating on Angie’s List, although you can’t go by that either.Then when I'd call HWA and tell them I was having issues, they’d tell me that I might be better off having another package. But when they would explain it, the reps seemed to need more training to have a good understanding of what the packages entail. I went with the Green Plus, then there was this Orange Plus and the reps weren’t clear on what’s covered under that package. I was under the assumption that for one package, appliances such as the refrigerator and stove would be replaced with more energy efficient appliances. But I found out that that would be for high end appliances only like Wolf and I don’t have those type of appliances. Still, I like HWA and I would renew with them again.
The house had Home Warranty of America when we bought it and we just continued it. We've been in the house a little over eight years and we're at eight years with them last August. The price has gotten bad and I asked them to increase the deductible by a $100. This reduces it $3 a year but it's $56. It started out at about $400 so it's gone up quite a bit. And I can understand it. I try not to use them any more than I have to. They held the price of $400 for a long time and now all of a sudden, it's starting to bite a little bit. The price is a little high especially since I'm trying not to use them in fact. The last three times I've had people out to look at the air conditioning or the heat, I paid for it myself. I don't like the idea of using insurance just because I got it. Insurance is supposed to be for really bad things. The only thing I've ever used them for was for a heat pump. I usually submit claims on the phone and the wait time takes 20 minutes. The music is one bad thing, it can be irritating. The sales reps are very nice though. I have to arrange a time directly with the vendor. But they respect the home warranty contract well enough that they give me a good time. It usually takes a couple of days or a day for a vendor to contact me once I’ve submitted a claim. The problem that I have with this house is that it has a heat pump manufactured by Amana and it's not a very good thing, and it generally requires somebody to come out once a year or twice a year. They come out and put three pounds of stuff in it and it'll be all right. But a couple of years ago, they sent somebody out and it was determined that the evaporator coil was leaking and that's why it was losing Freon. And so they put an evaporator coil in but it turned out it was the wrong one. And it's giving me flow problems in the house. I've paid to have an independent guy from Lindale to come out several times and do some work on it as recommended by the Homeadvisor. And the guy said that they put a coil in which was not the specified coil for the evaporator unit. It caused the flow to be reduced and they have these resistors that do the emergency heat. The heating unit from the heat pump has never worked and still they're not so I heat the house with emergency heat which is more expensive but it works and so I use it. But the evaporator coil made me mad that they put the wrong one in and not really told me about it. I'm sure they had problems getting the evaporator coil pump that’s why they used the wrong coil so they didn't have to buy the whole unit which would have been thousands of dollars. This was probably $1200 for the coil itself but that was irritating because I kept calling the vendor back about something rather and I couldn't get them to call me back. But other than that, experience has been good with Home Warranty of America.
We’re a real estate business and have a personal relationship with one of Home Warranty of America's local reps. Signing up using the website is easy. We filed a claim about two years ago and it wasn't a pleasant experience. The local rep explained what was going on with the company and that they hired some additional people to help with the claims. However, they need to make sure that they respond to claims in a timely manner.
My mom had Home Warranty of America for years and she still likes it. I'm a realtor and heard about them that way. It was relatively new and worth the try. Compared to HWA, I got disgusted with the others. We've been pleased with them before and I won't hesitate to recommend them. However, it seems like the price just keep going up. If we could get it for less it would be wonderful since we've been with them for so long. Also, there was one claim that we weren't totally satisfied with. We had either a furnace or air conditioner replaced, and the joker that came out put in a commercial one in the house, and our house isn’t that big. We're trying to get them to change it and they wouldn't do it.
The old company that I had would not cover my garage even though it was on warranty because it was detached with an electrical problem. And so, I decided to switch and went to Home Warranty of America because they cover my detached garage. I was just looking at online reviews then and it seemed that people were overall happy with them. I’ve been with them for several years and their service has been good. They do try to upsell different things and I have added on some different things also over the time, but they’re always very polite. Their reps have always been pleasant. However, I have a claim for a repair for my fridge that has been open since December the 7th. I submitted it online, they called back right away, and the company that they sent out called back right away too. But now I’m having trouble getting them to come back out after they took my $100 and get it fixed. They said they had to wait for parts. I called HWA last week, and they were going to be following up with it because they were having trouble getting a hold of the company that they sent out also. The last time I had my oven go out a couple of months ago, the people they sent out was great. In fact, they don’t make the parts for my range anymore so I ended up getting a new oven. I would recommend HWA because they’ve been nothing but great since I’ve had them. I’ve been happy with them thus far. I just wish that they wouldn’t be taking us along for this fridge. But I know it’s not their fault, it’s the company they sent out.
I had seven properties under Home Security of America, and one of them was in New York. When Home Security of America no longer serviced New York, I did a little research, and Home Warranty of America seemed like a good option. I have four warranties with them. In my primary residence, my refrigerator was deemed not repairable - I'm in Arizona and I didn’t have an icemaker for nine months because they couldn’t find somebody. They also would not replace it with a comparable item because it is an upgrade. But the warranty clearly states that it will be replaced with a comparable item that is readily available. Initially, they sent a repairman within a week, but that guy made it worse - it stopped making ice altogether. So they sent somebody who was familiar with the unit but he said, “I’m not touching it. Call LG.” Then LG came out twice, but they still couldn’t fix it. So I had three different people over five times. I had to follow up, and they’re like, “Oh, sorry. We forgot to get back to you.” It was pretty complicated. So, the first refrigerator they offered me didn’t have an icemaker, and I’m like, “That’s the issue. It’s the icemaker. I mean I understand that you guys are not going to be reading my details, but whoever is recommending the replacement should replace it with something comparable.” Then I told him, “Just be cognizant that it’s going to be counter-width.” The next one had an icemaker but was not counter-width. And placing-wise, they were going directly through GE. There was not much difference in GE’s suggested retail from what they were offering me to the counter-width. They just would not go to the counter-width. I had no expectation that if I had the lowest contract I was going to get the best replacement. So, I go for the premier, the gold, the platinum warranty. The unit cost me $2,600, and they’re only offering me $1,600. They would only give me a standard ref. I have a super small custom kitchen, so I had to have counter-width. So, I waited until the Thanksgiving sale, and I bought a unit that was like super reduced, which came close to what they were offering me, and I just took the $1,600. With respect to that, I was not satisfied. The girl that I was dealing with said, just out of making a point, “This is what we’re offering you”, which was weird. I haven’t had issues with them, but that was pretty significant. In other minor claims like drains clogged, they respond pretty quickly. But in a higher-end claim, they hesitated.
We lived in Maryland then we came back to West Virginia and bought this house. The previous owners had Home Warranty of America so I just kept paying for it every year when it was due. I've had Home Warranty of America since 2004 and they're very professional when I call but it takes them a while to get somebody here. My refrigerator went out three years ago and it took them six days to get somebody to check it. I'm a widow and I live alone. And I wish HWA could get somebody out here faster. We have good contractors here and HWA should get in touch with them. Also, when you have home warranty, they don't pay that much because they would say everything was just too old. When my air conditioner and furnace went out this past year, HWA took the claim but they didn't pay that much on it. All they paid for was the evaporator coils.
We’ve been with Home Warranty of America for eight years now. Most of the time, I file my claims over the phone and it’s fairly easy. Talking with their reps has been fairly easy and painless. But our experience with the contractors has been a hit or miss. The biggest problem we had was with a refrigeration company. Our freezer died out and we put in the claim. It took almost a month to finally get it fixed so, we lost all of our food. When they came out, they looked at it. They said they needed to order a part. It took weeks for the part to come in and to for them to come back and finally replace it. The communication with that company was terrible. We kept trying to tell Home Warranty of America about it but they weren’t much help with it. Other than that, the service from the contractors HWA sent overall was fairly good.
Home Warranty of America is pretty good but the technicians that they have are not the best. Usually, they send a technician who comes three times and they pay the technician $500 but still, the situation is not fixed. Then, I would say that I need somebody else to come, they would send someone and that person will fix it. I had a claim for the dishwasher and they spent a thousand dollars to get it fixed because they went through so many people. I'm only paying a one-time $75 fee but it's annoying to have somebody three times and not have the dishwasher fixed for two months. They were here for two hours and they don't know the job. I think Home Warranty doesn't have the business intelligence to see if it's worth it for them to spend another $500 to get a second person or if it's better for them to give us the money to buy a new dishwasher. But the last person they sent fixed it well.Now, I have to remember the people who really know how to fix things so that when I have a problem, I would tell them I need that person even if there's one week delay instead of having just somebody walk in here. Also, I recently had a problem with the furnace which is around 20 years old. They were supposed to tell me how much money they will give us so that I can decide whether I want to take the money or whether I want them to send somebody to fix it but they have never responded about it. It's been almost four weeks.
I'm visually impaired and this was my first time buying a house. This home was built in 2010 and in a few years, I'll probably have to replace the air conditioner. I had two different technicians in my house and I got the second opinion. One of them was my friend, but they both told me that the air conditioning had some rust. I called Home Warranty of America as I wanted to do a preventative replacement, but they are not going to do it. I have no control over when the unit will go. But maybe 2020 or 2021, while the weather is cool and the air conditioning guys are not busy and can give me a lot of attention, I would have Home Warranty of America come and get the unit switched out and make sure they do a good job installing. Home Warranty of America did cover certain things, like when my air conditioning motor was gone and they gave me a new motor, but there are things that they don't cover, so there were times that I ended up paying. When my garbage disposal was leaking, Home Warranty of America was taking too much time in getting an authorization. I needed to use the sink so I called my friend plumber and got it fixed. I also had a situation with my refrigerator. It has an icemaker that they cover. But they don't cover the water dispenser in it that was freezing. I called the appliance repair store one time, but they didn't do much and just said that they were manufacturing defects. The second time, I called a GE technician, which wasn't covered by warranty. He suggested that I install a heating system on the edge of the door frame and that certainly helped but Home Warranty of America should have covered the water dispenser because that was part of the appliance. They said the contract does not say that, and I have difficulty accessing the whole contract, so maybe that's true. Another issue that I had was when the flapper in my toilet went bad and it made a scratching noise that was really annoying. The flapper was a $40 part that needed to be replaced but Home Warranty of America said that since the toilet was functioning they would not cover it. I had to call the plumber and pay for that out of my own pocket. Those "third-party warranty companies" are very happy to take your money, but when it's time for them to have to help somebody out, then that's a different story. I don't like the fact that Home Warranty of America always tries to find a way to get out of a responsibility sometimes. So why am I paying them? I got an extended plan where if something happens and they have to re-pipe my house, they will cover that. I got it for peace of mind, but for a seven-year-old home, the pipes should be pretty sturdy and there shouldn't be any re-piping done. I have mixed feelings about Home Warranty of America and I feel restricted in terms of freedom. My contract with them expires next year and I'm debating whether or not I should renew, or even filing a complaint with Better Business Bureau.
I’ve had Home Warranty of America for about five years. I submit my claims mostly through the phone and though I get some wait times when I call the experience has been okay whenever I get someone on the line. And so far the people who have serviced my claims have been okay as well. Should any of my friends ask about Home Warranty of America I would tell them to give it a shot.
I've had a home warranty before and it helped. So when I was buying a house that was 30 years old, I decided to get one again and my real estate agent recommended Home Warranty of America. I've sent claims to HWA a couple of times but I had a bit of a problem when it was a weekend and the contractor didn't want to come out. It was a four-day holiday here because of the Mardi Gras. It took us almost a week to get the tech come out. I've had the tech before for another occasion with some plumbing under my sink, and he was a nice person. He was very friendly and very professional. He had to put a new water heater in and it was all done. I never had any problem getting HWA to respond. And it may take a while to get a technician to call me, but HWA always gives me a name. But they should find some technicians that will come out on the weekend because not too many of them do.
When I bought the house, the previous owner had the warranty with Home Warranty of America, and I continued it. When I called them, they answered the phone and asked about what the problem was. And when I submitted a claim, they sent someone right away. If not right away, they sent someone the next day. Their reps were courteous, too, and the technicians who came out were professional. But every year, even if I don’t have any claims, they raise their prices. They also charged me twice last month and the previous month. They said I missed two payments in 2016 but they had my credit card on file and charged me every month. So, I had a big argument with them but they still didn't help me and forced me to pay it.
I've had Home Warranty of America since 2001. About a year ago in May, I had a refrigerator go down and it took damn nearly six weeks to get that fixed. Then, this year, the same refrigerator went down again and it took over six weeks to get that one. The technicians attempted to repair it but didn't complete it. I went through a couple of technicians before I got anybody who could actually do the repairs. They ended up saying that the refrigerator shouldn't be repaired and they told Home Warranty that a long time ago but Home Warranty didn't want to replace it. We finally ended up replacing it. But I was a really unhappy camper on those two occasions.I suggest that when they have items that are needed to be used in the household, they don't drag their feet and take so damn long to get it either repaired or replaced. When I have to go six weeks without a refrigerator, that is a piss poor service. I was very dissatisfied. It's almost like they changed management. The management before took care of people but the management now doesn’t seem to. I've had some good and bad services with Home Warranty. When the technician is trying to get something done, they tell me it's taking a while to get it through Home Warranty. But when I call Home Warranty, they say that it's the technicians. I'm paying Home Warranty, so that's who I'm holding responsible. Also, I don't always get the best response from the people who answer the phone. I went with Home Warranty again because I've had some good experience with them. But if I have one more experience like I have had, I won't be going with them again.
When I bought the house, the owners already had the Home Warranty of America policy and I just continued it for the last eight years. The first seven years, I never had any major problems. They just came, fixed this and that and I paid my deductible and that was it. The issues were repaired. In June of 2017, my refrigerator went out and they were very good with that. They did a buy-out and I was able to buy a refrigerator right away. The only bad thing about that was that they offered a certain refrigerator and I chose to buy another over what they were offering. I had to wait three weeks to get my check. Then in September of 2017, my air-conditioning unit went out. I live in South Mississippi and it’s in the high 90’s here. An air conditioner is something I can’t do without in this area. So, I did a couple of claims with the customer service and there were no managers that a consumer can talk to. They said they would have them call me back and I got a callback on my cell phone during the day but I don’t have my cell phone on network typically so I missed it. So, I was out of air-conditioning for three weeks. Its compressor went out and the whole unit needed to be replaced according to the air-condition repair people. But Home Warranty of America just wanted to replace the compressor which was fine. However, the compressor was on back-order with their vendors, so I had to wait for an additional week.I went to the Better Business Bureau website. I found an email for the president of Home Warranty of America. Before I file the complaint with the Better Business Bureau, they requested that I send an email to that email address. I did and HWA responded very quickly. My request was to allow the repair people to order a compressor through their vendors and bypass the Home Warranty contracted vendors because their contracted vendors had it on back-order. They did that and it took place so quickly. I had my air conditioner up and running the next day. In the end, I had to go through all this aggravation for three weeks and I requested to speak to a supervisor every time I called because they couldn’t give me an answer. But when I emailed their president, only then did these people jump right on it and took care of it. I was going to shop around for another warranty company but overall, though, I’m satisfied with them.
My heater didn’t go hot and it either went up or the water never went up to the point where it made my radiator hot downstairs, yet Home Warranty of America wouldn’t cover my problem. I wanted to pay $1,000 for both the radiator in my basement to get fixed and the one in my room, but they said the claim was put in together, and it had to be done and covered. The claim couldn’t be split, so that was a bit strange. They just told me it was $1,000 and I was never given an option to convert my plan to another. But they were able to pay for the one in the room for it to get done and that was only $100 for two hours. Every six months, the heater would go out and I’ve got to call the plumbing people to come out and take it up. My pipes may have to be lifted because the sound of water made it seem like the water doesn’t go where it needs to go, and I got tubes in two separate kitchens. The problem is only my upper floor, not in my basement, because I got a kitchen in my basement too. However, Home Warranty doesn’t cover the pipes, so that’s a whole another expense from my pocket. This issue is too much for me. I try to have everything I need as a parent and as a homeowner and just be responsible but I just can't get a break from this problem. I'm going to have surgery on January 9th and I really want to get that heater fixed in my room because that’s where I'm sleeping.Home Warranty of America took care of me at different times like when my doorbell went out or when my washer wouldn’t spin and wouldn’t stop the water in it. They fixed those with my deductible and that was money saved, so that was a blessing. I've been with Home Warranty of America since I had my house in 2008 but they're not going to get more than that because of this dissatisfaction that I have. Also, right before I renewed with them, I had to pay a bit more. I was paying $71 and now suddenly it’s $76, but that still wasn’t covering anything. I went to other warranty companies and they’ve been trying to send me flyers to come with them, so I'd renew with them. I still have a problem with my heater and I'm trying to find somebody to do that.
We purchased an older house and it made sense to get a warranty for the safeguard against huge expenses. My father chose Home Warranty of America. For the most part, our experience has been okay with the exception of the claim against my air-conditioner. When they sent somebody out, I had to pay the $60 deductible. And they reset the switch because my unit is on the roof. I’m disabled so I’m not able to climb up and reset it. They said it needed to be cleaned. I had it cleaned and I did everything that needed to be done. I even replaced some parts at my expense. And it was frustrating that it took over two years before they finally concluded that the unit was no longer serviceable even though it was as old as the house. It was more than 20 years old and it kept having problems. And they only replaced it with the same size unit which was already under-sized for the house.The people that Home Warranty of America sent out were adequate. They were professional but they tried to charge me for extra things that they should have included in their original quote to the home warranty company. But I simply refused to pay. When they gave me the estimate of what the additional charges would be, which would be a couple $100, I told them they needed to work it out with the warranty company as far as what additional things they needed. They tried to charge me for some extra drainage pipe and some other things. And they tried to charge me for new stuff that they didn’t put in.
When we bought our condo, the seller purchased the warranty from Home Warranty of America for us, and it was included in the purchase. We just continued recently, and we are on our second year now. However, we weren’t actually planning on extending out warranty. But our garbage disposal went out right as the warranty was going out. So, we called them to make sure that the complaint got registered before it expired. We were just going to make the warranty lapse, but we were also afraid that if we did, we might lose the coverage for the garbage disposal. So, we just kept it. Furthermore, we also had an old dishwasher that went out, and they ended up buying it out of us.I was hoping that they’d get us a new one, like what their advertisement basically said – that is something goes wrong and it dies, they’ll get a new one for you. But they didn’t. They just bought us out of it, and that’s another reason I wasn’t planning on extending the warranty. Because I felt like I got shafted. I didn’t think that it was worthwhile. I pay $45 a month, and if I put that money aside, we can use it to actually buy something. Other than that, it’s great when they come out and they fix the stuff. It’s also nice to have them because I can just call them and tell them that I need something done. However, when HWA sends it over to the contractor, sometimes, the contractor doesn’t call immediately. But HWA gives us the number of the contractor and tell us that we can call them if the contractor doesn’t call us. So, that useful and helps speed up stuff a little bit.HWA has an online system where you can place a complaint and give them a brief description of what happened and why something isn’t working. The contractors that come out have also been from the same company. The first few times we’ve had a problem with the dishwasher, we’ve always had the same guy, and he was always very courteous. He was really good and knew what he was doing. But he was always late, and I don’t like having to wait all day off of work.They would set up a window for them to come, and it would always be at the very end, if not after that window. So, we keep getting pushed back. There was at least one where we cancelled because it was 9 in the evening. I told the guy that I had to go to bed. So, even if he came down to fix it, it would be past my bedtime. But they always called to let us know that they were running late. I think they may be understaffed, and there’s probably just one or two guys. Or that we may be on the very edge of their service area.We also got our garbage disposal repaired, and I wanted them to take it out because I didn’t want it. I’m trying to be green, so we didn’t use it because it’s adding waste to the sewage, and that’s not the best way to do that. So, I wanted them just to take it out and put a regular pad bin because it wasn't working anyway. But instead of doing that, they decide to pay for a new garbage disposal and put it in. I was thinking, "Well, would it be cheaper just to put a pipe here?" But they replaced it, and that's fine.The guy who put it in wasn’t our usual guy, and he didn’t lock it up properly. And when we were washing the dishes and let the water out, I heard a gush of water. So, we opened the cabinet underneath the sink, and it was inundated. Half of everything that was in the sink was under there now. So, we had to take everything out, mop it off, dry everything, and clean it off. HWA sent the guy back out and he ended up having to run to Home Depot and get some parts to fix it. We’ve been keeping a dishpan underneath the sink, just in case, but it hasn’t leaked since, and it’s working fine. We also have a couple of issues going on with our wiring right now, and I need to check and see if it’s covered under HWA. We're thinking about putting in another request for a lighting fixture in the bathroom. I think the ballast is going out on the fluorescent light in the bathroom. So, it's just a little bit more complicated than I can handle.
I learned about Home Warranty of America from my son who had it. Although I haven't had any interaction with their sales representatives nor have I submitted a claim, it wasn't difficult signing up for service with them.
There was a leak in a water line in the slab and Home Warranty of America said that fixing the water pipe was covered by my policy. But to me, that was almost deceptive because to repair the water line, the contractor had to gain access to it and that was not covered. I had to pay for jack-hammering the slab up and replacing the tile which was the greatest of the cost. Once they got access to the water line, they repaired it. But that part has been troubling me. I'm sure it's in the contract some place but it must be buried deep and in fine lines. It seems that inevitably, if there was an issue, whether or not it would be covered would always be conditional upon this and that. Other than that, the few other issues I had were clear-cut. The house is a little older so I have had Home Warranty of America from the time I bought it. The first year, there were some air conditioning problems and I was glad I had the warranty. They paid the agreed-to amount while I paid the service call and my claim was taken care of. The same thing happened for all my other claims. Still, I would tell others to be cautious before signing up with Home Warranty of America and shop around. It seemed that more times than not, the work was not covered or there was a real stipulation to it that left me with the greater expense. I also had an issue with drains that I had to pay several service calls for. I eventually got that taken care of but the first guy who came out said that he couldn't find the problem although he knew what was causing it. Then he left.
The realtor signed us up with Home Warranty of America years ago but when I had a claim for the refrigerator, it was denied. The freezer door wasn't working right and the freezer wasn't making ice. They even took pictures but I don't know why the claim was denied. In the end, I canceled the policy.
I've been using Home Warranty of America for years. And they've been fine except sometimes on the claims, they've been really obnoxious to work with. If something has to be replaced, they fight with me. I usually submit a claim over the phone and it has been fine except the last couple of times I had to call, even though it says 24 hours, seven days a week, they don’t answer the phone at night.
I've had HWA's service for 11 years now. I'm also a real estate agent and I've provided their services to clients and it has been excruciating to work with them at times. Their reps are not nice and they sound like they're from New York and cold-hearted. Once, it was -15 degrees and I had no power in my home for five days and my furnace went out. They provided me a heating and cooling company that came and told me that my furnace was leaking carbon monoxide because the heat exchanger was cracked and that it was unsafe to live in. I called them again and told them that I needed people in my house. One guy came over and he told me that he's going to show me pictures of all the cracks in the exchanger, which I still have. They proceeded to send me two other companies that told me that my furnace was fine. I paid them $670 but the furnace still emits carbon monoxide. This has been going on for four years now.
Absolute waste of time. They farm out a request to contractors who are in zero rush to get back to you. My home is without heat, with an infant here, and the contractor is taking their sweet time to schedule a visit. HWA says up to 48 hours is their "procedures and protocol".
This is my 3rd and last experience with this company.
Two stars because, with the exception of one lady, most of their customer service reps are friendly.
In 2016, I didn't have any air conditioning. The repairman who came over on the Mayflower came out and he was really, really nice but he called Home Warranty of America and he told them what was needed to be done but they didn't approve it. So, he fixed it as much as he could but he couldn't fix it like it needed to. I paid him an extra hundred besides the deductible because HWA wouldn't cover the problem and the cost came out of my pocket. But several years ago before that when we also had a problem with the air conditioning, the repairman who was from Stonewall in a little community southeast of here talked to HWA about the issue and they approved it back then. Those are the only two times I called them and both times was about the air conditioner. I have the basic warranty and someone mentioned to me that there is a premium or premier warranty that's higher. I feel HWA might be easier to work with if I had the higher premium warranty versus the basic warranty. Nonetheless, the repairman was really nice. When he went out here, we had no air conditioning and it was in July. Oklahoma weather sometimes gets ugly in the summertime so we had six floor fans going 24 hours a day. At that time, I had two little dogs and we had three little dogs, and they had to stay cool. At night, we would lay the washcloths on top of the dogs and then, the fan would be blowing on them so they would stay cool. I really need to call HWA and see if they have a plan over the basic. They should have more than one plan other than the basic one. I wasn't happy with my second experience at all. My air conditioning had a Freon leak and they wouldn't do anything about that. My daughter's cousin who grew up in the sheet metal business comes out here every year, checks out my a/c, puts freon in it and we pay him a hundred dollars. He hasn't signed the contract with HWA so he just comes up whenever my daughter calls him.
When I moved into our house seven years ago, it already had the policy with Home Warranty of America. And so, I continued it because I was by myself and it was something that I might use. But now, I'm thinking that it was not such a good idea. The price keeps going up. I have had to pay them something when somebody comes out, and it was $65 when I first started with them and now, it's $100. And then, I needed help on Christmas Eve when half of my oven door fell off, and I was in the middle of cooking Christmas dinner. I called and they said they don't do things like it because it was too little and there might just be a loose screw. So, I was not too happy. The claim was cancelled right away when the rep said they didn’t do that.The representative was very nice but she was not of any help to me. I expect them to help me I expect them to help me. And I'm in the process of thinking if I want to keep the policy. Still, my overall experience with Home Warranty of America has been okay. And everybody has been very professional. I called them one time for my garbage disposal and another time for my plumbing. They sent somebody out and it worked out fine.
This company is terrible, if a seller gets you this company for your home warranty cancel the sale immediately. I called them for a dishwasher issue the person who came out looked at the problem told me how to fix it and said he wouldn't be back because my house was too far of a drive. I called them about an issue with my plumbing and told them I needed a plumber ASAP to because we could not use our water and they said they needed me to call the plumber they gave me but he was not a 24 hr plumber so he wouldn't answer the phone. I called back and the operator said he could only continue to give me names and hopefully one of the contractors would answer and work, if they didn't I would have to wait until the contractor gets in for office hours. So stay away from this company!!!!!!!!!!
Reported a leak with jetted bathtub. Repairman came out and replaced the pump but did not repair leak in waterline. HWA refused to pay for any further repairs, stating they did not repair jets under the warranty. It was not a jet that needed replacement, but the waterline under tub. They wasted my time and money on replacing the functioning pump, but did not repair the problem that I had reported.
Absolutely terrible, they deserve negative stars. You have no choice in the product repairs or replacement. They required us to pay more than needed because the brand they like to use would need modifications to fit in our home, those modifications were not covered. But they were only necessary because they wouldn't agree to use a different brand that would fit. They also required that we approve non covered repairs with the covered ones or they would not pay the covered ones.Decided to cancel and that was a whole other nightmare that is still going. I did everything. Write, read the contract, cancelled in writing in the time frame. Called for confirmation multiple time. Called after receiving the confirmation email to check on refund status, was told they don't have a cancellation department I can speak with and that it would take 6-12 weeks to refund the premiums. Since then they have again charged my bank account (Over a month after I received confirmation of my cancellation). I cannot get any returned phone calls or emails. I have disputed the charges with my bank and am working on going that route.Also watch out, they won't auto renew you the first year. But if you do renew then they will auto renew you but they will send you countless email and mail notifications that you need to renew, and your renewal deadline is approaching so you think if you ignore them it won't auto renew. Very shady unethical business. GO ELSEWHERE!
I wish I would have read these reviews before I purchased a home warranty from HWA. I am going on 3 weeks without a washer/dryer. They are the most unprofessional company I have ever come across. Shame on you HWA.
Still haven't received a resolution to my washer/dryer claim. The suggestion I call the customer service center is absurd - nobody knows anything. They suggest I wait for a manager to call back, which never happens. I was offered $59 for replacement of my washer/dryer. Please, tell me where I can purchase a washer/dryer for $59? HWA should warn customers that they do not honor warranties under any circumstances.
Worst company in America. Nothing of use is covered. What you pay in plus what you pay up front to each contractor is what is used. Keep your money and choose your own contractors. This company and the people they use are dirt bags.
** Used for multiple issues on a new house in moved into. I had claims open for months at times with no resolution. I had contractors come to my house stay 5 minutes, charge the $75 and claim some issue that they could not fix was the problem. After bringing out licensed contractors of my own, i was able to get the issues resolved. This type of behavior is well known. Don't bother with this company. It is truly a scam.
The people who you talk to on the phone and not knowledgeable and will threaten to disconnect the call if you even show any frustration. Its something they are likely taught due to all the issues their customers encounter. I am also filing a complaint with the BBB. Good day to all!

Seriously, I've had to work with this company several times to resolve issues with a home I just purchased and they have dicked me around with every...single...one of them.
1) My A/C broke over the summer and it took them a MONTH to fix it. They refused to let me find my own business, forcing me to use their vendors. THREE vendors came and went, each more horrible than the last. The vendors were SUPER disrespecful, completely incompetent, or just flat out didn't show up. You better believe I was charged $100 each time though. After a month I finally forced HWA to let me use my own vendor and a couple weeks later the work was finished. I should mention that my guy got the work done in 2 days, the other 12 was spent waiting for HWA to pay.
2) Toilet issue. The toilet rarely worked right, you flush anything down it and it clogs. I tried opening a claim with HWA and nothing. No calls, followups, nothing. I called and tried to speak to customer service. They said they'd get on it but no one ever did. Finally I just called a plumber, had the work done, got an itemized bill, and submitted it for reimbursement. HWA refuses to pay it because they didn't authorize the work!
I could go on and on but I'm too furious to keep talking about this. HWA has screwed me over every chance they've had and by the looks of these reviews I am not the only one.

The only reason they are getting one star is there is no option for zero strs. I am a realtor who has had several policies over the years with positive experience and have recommended this company to clients, but my latest experience means I can no longer recommend this company. I had an emergency gas leak and was left without heat. It took 4 days to get the repair made and then when the repair wasn't made correctly, the customer service rep lied that there was no availability to schedule the Saturday repair. I verified with the supplier that they were ready, willing and able to make the repair on Saturday. When I called HWA back to inform them of this, it turns out the rep had given me a fictitious name. There strategy seems to be to make a claim so frustrating that you will just go away. It's a shame because this used to be a reputable company.
If I could give them fewer than one star I would. This company is THE WORST. They are rude, and cannot make good on their contract terms. They are not able to provide service in a timely manner, and it seems as if their goal is to make you afraid to call because they are sooo very mean on the phone. Today, while answering politely some routine questions - I was not able to answer one. I told "Maddie" that I did not know the answer - but if I had to guess - I would say the system worked for a week or so before I noticed it was not functioning properly. She responded with "I'm sick of having to deal with people like you" - and then she put me on hold for 24 minutes before disconnecting the call.
I will be using Thumbtack instead of my costly Diamond warranty plan. What a waste of $565!

Responding to fraud Company below: this Company stated they normally pay 75$ per for the AC technician which my job was 1.5. This should bring the cost labor to a little over 100$. So then they are saying the part should be 200$ but they are only going to pay 50$. Please someone tell me how the hell the got 150$? Again, criminal Company. Oh and I did speak to someone from the " presidents office " no wonder their customer service are so rude and don't give two sh!! About you. Avoid this company!!
This company is a fraud. After requesting repairs on my AC unit and them not able to send anyone out for several days. They offered that I use my own vendor/repair company which was great considering I know quality companies in my area. They said the only thing I need to remember is the repair company had to call prior to repairs being made so they could approve said repair for reimbursement or I would not be paid back. We completed this and the repair. I paid about 570$ out of pocket. I got a call today stating that HWA was only going to reimburse me for 150$ of the 570$ I spent. They said the item and the work only would get 150$. For a fan motor on an ac unit goes much more than that and that doesn't include the time of the tech. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this scam as possible. They contract to some of the worst in you area and care very little for you or your home.
Home Warranty of America was recommended to me and I’ve had them for years. I’ve been very happy up until now. I have a broken garage door and they sent a company to fix it. The contractor didn’t even open up the motor. He just walked in the garage, looked around and decided that everything that wasn’t included needed to be replaced at my own cost of $800, and the motor was still working. I brought in another person, my own person, who opened up the garage door opener and saw that it had cracked inside. There were pieces from the cracked part as it was turning and they needed to be replaced regardless of whether it’s working or not.I called the contractor but he never returned my call. I called the HWA and they said they’ll try to send me someone else. They said the closest person they could find to me happened to be two hours away, so they refused to come. This was after two days. Normally, when something breaks, they give you a money allotment. They say, “We’ll give you $300 or you can have us fix it.” I said, “Find out what the money allotment is, and I’ll just get it fixed myself.” And they said, “Well, we can’t do that because our guy did not say it was broken,” even though I sent them pictures showing them the inside of the garage door opener and they could see it was definitely broken. So, now they’re looking for someone else, and they’re not going to find anybody closer than the person they just found. They’re going to have me call somebody who’s four hours away who’s not going to come. I asked for a supervisor, and she said, “Okay. You’ll hear from them within 24 to 48 hours.” So, that means another two days without my garage door working, which means it’s been almost two weeks now, and they still refuse to make me an offer so I could get it fixed. And their solution is, “Bring somebody in and have them look at it and have them call us.” And I said, “Will you approve?” And they said, “We’ll only approve what we’re willing to pay.” I said, “That’s not going to work, because if I pay somebody $100 out of my pocket to come look at it, and they tell you it’s $500, you say, ‘We only pay $200,’ they’re not going to do it.” So, that is not a solution. Now, I told them that I got somebody. I found the person who came and took the pictures. He said he would do the job for $425. I said, “Why don’t you get authorization, give me the money, and I’ll have him do it?” But they wouldn’t do that. So, now I’m sitting and waiting for a supervisor to call for 24 to 48 hours. Again, it’s winter here in New York. The whole reason I need the garage is to get the car out of the snow when it snows and they’re just dragging it on and on and on. And they refuse to tell me what the allotted amount is.Up until this point I really had no complaints with them. They’ve been good most of the time about who they send. But for some reason, they don’t seem to have any local garage door repair people. So, it’s creating an issue, because the one that they do have seems to be extremely dishonest and not very reliable. I’m hoping a supervisor will be able to say, “This is the amount we allot for an installation and a new garage door opener.” So then at least I know if I’ll call somebody, if they’ll accept that amount of money, I can go ahead and do it. But I can’t have somebody go check it, pay them a fee, then have them call and then have them tell me sorry, they’re only going to pay half of my fee.
What a scam.
They will say you don't need a home inspection for the coverage and then when you need something replaced they'll say they won't cover it since it wasn't inspected. They'll quote pre-existing conditions. But they will let you spend $75 on a service technician first.
Please don't use this company, or get a home warranty at all. Even when your seller says they'll pay for one - decline. It's more trouble than it's worth.
Worst home warranty company out there. First of all their customer service sucks. Every employee I talked to over the phone were rude for no reason as if my claim was interrupting their day. Second, they were all fine about fixing my furnace when it was a part here and a part there but the mechanic was still unable to fix it. They only other recommendation was to replace the entire furnace due to a dangerous gas leak. HWA then says under a technicality they won't cover it and should have never sent anyone out in the first place. What a F'ing joke. So if you want a home warranty that will pay a couple hundred bucks for a repair but won't put out the money to actually fix and replace something go ahead and give your money to this pathetic company.
Absolutely terrible, they deserve negative stars. You have no choice in the product repairs or replacement. They required us to pay more than needed because the brand they like to use would need modifications to fit in our home, those modifications were not covered. But they were only necessary because they wouldn't agree to use a different brand that would fit. They also required that we approve non covered repairs with the covered ones or they would not pay the covered ones.
Decided to cancel and that was a whole other nightmare that is still going. I did everything write, read the contract, cancelled in writing in the time frame. Called for confirmation multiple time. Called after receiving the confirmation email to check on refund status, was told they don't have a cancellation department I can speak with and that it would take 6-12 weeks to refund the premiums. Since then they have again charged my bank account (Over a month after I received confirmation of my cancellation) I cannot get any returned phone calls or emails. I have disputed the charges with my bank and am working on going that route.
Also watch out, they won't auto renew you the first year. But if you do renew then they will auto renew you but they will send you countless email and mail notifications that you need to renew, and you renewal deadline is approaching so you think if you ignore them it won't auto renew. Very shady unethical business. GO ELSEWHERE!

I have no issue with items not being covered. I am fully aware that not 100% of everything is covered. What I do have a problem with is not being able to say ok go ahead and replace the covered part. I am aware that it will not be compatible with another appliance in my house but I will choose the service tech and appliance that I wish on the rest of it since I am paying 100% out of pocket for it myself. I should be able to choose who does that work and when, I should be able to choose what product I want to buy. I should be able to spread out the cost because I can't afford to replace the non covered part right now. There was NO reason that you guys could not have replaced the non working covered item and been done with it. We should not have to approve non covered items to be repaired/replaced at the technicians gouged prices. We got a quote for the non covered items that was WAY cheaper than what your tech wanted to charge. We could have had the whole repair done for an affordable amount. Instead we still have no air conditioning because you guys demanded that we approve all or nothing. All of that aside I cancelled and within the time frame in my contract and in the exact way the contract stated and I received the confirmation. Yet over a month later my bank account was drafted again, I have not been able to get anyone to discuss any of this or give any kind of status or help. You literally STOLE money out of my bank account.
We received a HWA policy with the purchase of our home, which was primarily intended to cover a failing HVAC system.
Within a few months of the policy, we had to get our AC serviced, as it was on the fritz. I live in Chicago, and there are innumerable HVAC vendors, here. However, HWA worked with a limited number of vendors, and they couldn't get in touch with ANY of them for a weekend appointment. Because we have a baby and animals, we couldn't be without AC on a very hot weekend. So, they allowed us to work with our own vendor.
Despite our vendor recommending the unit be replaced--or at least a new compressor--HWA refused. Instead, they insisted that we do a gazillion small fixes which are, essentially, band-aids. Our reputable tech literally rolled his eyes when he heard what they expected us to do.
Fast forward a few months, and we've just had to file a claim on our dishwasher, as the door is broken, rendering it unusable. Again, living in the center of Chicago, I could easily have gotten someone here immediately. Instead, I waited 24 hours for my assigned vendor to contact me with no luck.
When I looked that vendor up on Yelp, I saw that they had 1.5 stars and a whole list of horrible reviews, saying the company had damaged property, etc. Of course, I called HWA, asking to be assigned to a new vendor. We started going through their list, and every single vendor mentioned received less than 2 stars in all online reviews. These weren't just unhappy customers; these were complaints of neglect, damage, etc.
Again, despite the fact that Yelp lists approx. 30 reputable and well-regarded appliance repair companies within my service area, HWA disallows customers from choosing their own servicemen, and they somehow have managed to partner with the handful of the most disreputable vendors out there.
Clearly, HWA is trying to save money by partnering with sub-par vendors who don't do quality work. It's a slap in the face as a customer, and this revelation has led me to not renew our policy, even though I was thinking about doing so.
Home Warranty of America, Inc. has sent a technician out at least 4 times to "fix" our dishwasher over the course of three months, yet it still doesn't work. Additionally, the last tech pulled the appliance out, broke our cabinet, broke pieces off the dishwasher and still did not fix the problem. But we were charged for service yet again. They rescheduled for a time window in which we may not be available and have refused to let us escalate to a supervisor. This is 0-star service.
If it were possible to give no stars I would. We have a 2 yr old home. The first issue is our built in microwave went out they refused to replace it stating it was not built in because the technician who submitted the invoice did not specifically write in built in. When you google the model number or go to the manufacturer site and type it in it very specifically comes up as "a built in microwave" It was attached to the wall with screws!!! It took 4 weeks of fighting and proving it for them to finally pay for it. Now a month later our heater is out. The are refusing to pay for it saying they pay for everything heater related except for this one $550 part. We have had record breaking freezing temperatures in the last 6 days and we have 3 kids under 6 who we've had to try to keep warm with space heaters we had to purchase. We had to call the company they sent over 4 times to get a response. They pulled up to our driveway then turned around and left. When WE called them they said the company decided not to pay our claim. When I called HWA I was hung up on twice and one lady said I sounded like a man and had the voice of a man and then she hung up on me when I asked to be transferred to the department who could cancel my account. When I called back to cancel they told me I would not get any refund because there's a $30 cancellation fee and then they would deduct the microwave they covered last month so we would have 0 left. So here we are on day 6 of no heat with a low of 16 degrees tonight we got snow last night and we need to come up with $550 to pay for this damper board and the guy already left so now we need to reschedule them. This company is the biggest waste of money ever. I will never use them again and I will make sure to let anyone and everyone I know about their lack of customer service and coverage.
WARNING...This is the worst home warranty company out there ... would give a zero if I could.

After listening to the black hole of on hold music for 10 minutes I go to Google to find out you are closed on Sunday. Seriously? You can't set your phone system to notify callers you are closed? Maybe post your hours on your website? Better to make them sit on hold and finally hang up with frustration?
Even worse your online claim system isn't working as I tried that first.
What an absolute joke of a company. Go ahead and post a canned response but the reality is this warranty company is a sham.
I received the warranty when I bought the house a year ago. I will not be renewing the contract. What a scam, HWA and their contractors. You pay the yearly cost and then you STILL pay the 60-75 dollars to their contractor just to come out and give you an over inflated quote on what is needed to fix the problem. In most case, not fix the problem. Then HWA has to approve it or in most cases deny the work and you are out the money you paid for a quote. Why not just call someone yourself and pay the 60 -75 dollars for an electrician or plumber to come out and fix it right that day when you need it fixed? You save the yearly cost. Don't waste your money on the home warranty. Save up the money you would pay for a home warranty contract and use that money for any repairs.
The last disaster I experienced with HWA. I had a light fixture in the ceiling that was not working because of wiring. The electrician noted that the wiring was not in a splice box and needed one because of the danger of exposed wiring. He submitted a claim to HWA that was denied because they don't cover "missing parts". He could not install a 7 dollar splice box because HWA would not cover the work. He spliced the wires together but said that all he could do under the contract with HWA. Really? Put my family at risk of a fire due to exposed wiring because HWA wouldn't shell out 7 dollars for the splice box? What I am really surprised at is this. Why the electrician just didn't add the box anyway and fix everything. I would have just given him the 7 bucks.
Here's the scam. The HWA contracted electrician quoted 250 dollars to splice a wire together for one hour of work. I end up paying the electrician the 60 dollars per contract and he gets reimbursed the $250 from HWA?
I found an electrician for $65 that will do this job with the box and fix everything to code.
If I could leave 0 stars, I would have. HWA was purchased for us by the sellers of this home when we moved to Missouri a year ago. We have had two experiences with them....both dismal. Our upstairs A/C unit was not repaired by the previous owner as it should have been. Sooooo....we called HWA because that's what new homeowners who are given a Home Warranty Contract as part of the purchase agreement are supposed to do, correct? WRONG! I could write a book about the run around, confusion, time wasted, money spent ONLY to be told 3+ (it may have been longer) months AFTERwards that the unit was not covered! However, in the beginning an A/C repair company was sent from Springfield. They diddled around with the unit saying "they had to order a part" and "would return when the part comes in". They then collected my $100.00, left, AND after numerous calls to said company as well as several calls to HWA, came back, installed some part BACKWARDS and UPSIDE DOWN and after leaving numerous messages, we never saw them again. Desperate, we got AWA involved and was told that AWA was "filing a claim" against them. Many more calls later, we were told "that unit is not covered by our policy". Really? It took them 3+ months, $100.00, countless phone calls to be told that? Unreal. Meanwhile, we are out our $100.00 with no apology or explanation OR consideration from AWA.....AND, the unit still does not work!
The second service call was for our garbage disposal, another item left unfixed by the previous owner. I set up the service call with AWA online and ONE MONTH later (I'm not kidding), some company called to set up an appointment. Fortunately, I didn't put out another $100.00 and, instead, had a friend fix it and it works perfectly with no hassle, no endless waiting.
Today, I received another "renewal notice" from AWA. Are you kidding me? I'd have to be dumber than a rock to even halfway consider it.
My advice to anyone considering this company is check the other reviews, refer to the BBB and stay away. I'll never understand how a company like this stays in business.
We got Home Warranty of America when we bought the house. Everything went into the house and we didn’t have money for anything new. The former owners bought the warranty for us and the brochure said that the package we got covered the washer and dryer but the package we actually got did not. We had a little problem with the washer and Home Warranty told us that it wasn’t covered. I had to speak with a foreign person who could barely understand me. I asked for a manager to call me back and I never got a response. We found out that it was a cracked hose so I took care of that and replaced it but still waited and never got a response from Home Warranty. I know that the washer and dryer are not going to last so I upped the amount to cover them, and I’m just going to wait and make Home Warranty pay for it. I would never recommend them for their dishonesty.
After giving HWA over a month to resolve my home repair, I am finally leaving the negative Yelp review I suspected all along I'd have to write.
I'll save you the many, many details of my situation, but in short, my husband and I recently bought a home and went ahead and purchased a warranty at that time. Two weeks later, we had a massive drain pipe break underneath the house sending gushing gray water all throughout the master bathroom, bedroom, and hallway. Total disaster. I called HWA and the first thing I was asked was whether might like to upgrade my coverage to include my appliances. Ummm, nasty gray water is LITERALLY POURING out of the floor of my bathroom and you pick this time to try to up-sell me on a policy I haven't even used yet?! Major red flag.
Fast forward to the dispatching of a 'service technician' (I use that term loosely) by HWA. The first contractors were so unprofessional and downright creepy that, after they made a bigger mess than what was already there, spreading tools around on my bathroom sink that had been used in a sewer pipe and using my kitchen towels to plug the toilet up so that "sewer gas would not escape," I finally told them to get out of my house immediately. I called HWA and they sent out another company who was woefully unequipped (pretty sure they weren't even plumbers, honestly) and couldn't even find the take-out in my front yard. They 'forgot' their drain camera at the warehouse, then tried to get out of having to go back and get it. They only did so after my husband basically yelled at them to go get it; they returned 45 minutes later and promptly BROKE the camera into two pieces due to their utter ineptitude. The plumber actually knocked on my door not 2 minutes after getting back to our house and showed me the camera hanging like a loose tooth from its wiring system as though to prove to me that he couldn't do his job. All this while we have no operational plumbing, a young child at home, and still no sense as to what is actually wrong with the plumbing system.
After going through similar scenarios 3 more times with 3 different HWA-dispatched technicians (I wish I could say I was exaggerating, but I'm not), I finally put my foot down and called a highly qualified, reputable plumbing company here in town and had them come out to diagnose the problem on my own dime. Sure enough, there were two breaks in a drain pipe that would cost $6000 to repair. I called HWA and was informed that I could go ahead and pay for the work and that I could file for a buyout afterwards. I went ahead and did this, thinking they would make good and provide for reasonable reimbursement of the repair.
Needless to say, this did not happen, and we were nickeled and dimed the entire way through. At one point I was told that I could expect the majority of the repair to be reimbursed, then had an email in writing that $1460 would be reimbursed, then just received a phone call from a "customer service" individual stating that her "supervisor" pointed out that there was a $1000 cap on the type of plumbing repair we had, therefore that was all they would authorize to be reimbursed.
Sure, $1000 isn't chump change, but my real issue is the utterly exhausting, seemingly constant battle I've had to undertake every time I try to have even a basic dialogue with representatives of this company. They insinuate you are wrong simply because you're the customer, and will actively work against you. I can't even begin to count how many wasted hours have been spent on the phone getting the run-around, dealing with incompetent contractors tracking dirt and God-knows-what-else through my beautiful new home, pointless email conversations with 'customer service' individuals that are enough to make you want to pull your hair out in frustration, etc. I thought that home warranties were supposed to provide peace of mind; instead, this has been my worst nightmare played on repeat. Over. And Over. Again.
In short, this company doesn't even pretend to care about the customer, engages in deceptive business practices, hides behind a shoddy contract that they never fail to interpret to their advantage, then pull bait-and-switches that leave the homeowner holding the bag.
RUN, don't walk, away from these folks. HWA, you are terrible people with terrible business practices and I will never again trust you to treat me and my family with even an ounce of respect, nor will I give you any in return. I will continue to do everything I can in my power to disclose your unethical, unprofessional, and downright rude business practices to anyone who will listen. My next stop is the BBB.
