When choosing a new cooker for your home, you want to go for the best possible option, right? This may not be the cheapest or most convenient option, but the results are surely worth it once you get it installed and can begin using it. With so many great appliance brands on the market right now, how do you determine the best?
We’ve chosen two of the most popular cooking appliance brands to compare today - GE and Whirlpool. They both offer high-quality and reliable cookers, so which is the best? Let’s find out together, shall we?

GE vs Whirlpool: Which is Best?
GE Appliances
GE Appliances was first launched in the eighties and has been growing rapidly ever since. They pride themselves on the fact that they’re one of the largest companies in the world, so it stands to reason that all of their appliances, including cookers, are of supreme quality and value.
Whirlpool Appliances
Whirlpool offers a number of appliances such as refrigerators, cookers, and washers, all of which come with competitive prices and great quality. They’re one of the largest manufacturers in America today but they don’t tend to market themselves as well as they could.
GE vs. Whirlpool Review
Now that we know a basic knowledge of both GE and Whirlpool, let’s get into the review in which we’ll be comparing the cooker range that both brands offer. While both manufacturers offer other appliances, we won’t be looking at these today.
Number of Cookers Available
GE Appliances offer both in-wall and freestanding cookers for you to choose from. This gives you more versatility to get the type of cooker that you really want in your home. Whirlpool is currently only offering built-in cookers for you to choose from.
In terms of how many cookers there are for you to choose from, GE is currently showcasing 44 in-wall cookers, 170 freestanding alternatives on their websites, making there 214 cookers in total for you to peruse.
On the other hand, Whirlpool has 41 cookers on their website at the moment. Clearly, you can see that there is more of a selection on the GE Appliances website and therefore it’d be more likely for you to be able to find your dream oven here.
Whirlpool offers a number of freestanding ranges and built-in ovens, so you can choose how you want the layout of your kitchen to look. They come in both gas and electric so suit your needs the best.
Price
Looking at the GE website, it is immediately apparent that the cookers available here are high-end thanks to their slightly eye-widening price tags. The most inexpensive cooker from GE is actually a freestanding Electric Range with a price of over $600.
In contrast to this, the least expensive cooker from Whirlpool is the 4.8 cu. Ft. electric range which costs slightly over $500. This is half the price of a similar model from GE Appliances, so the price difference is rather noticeable. The majority of Whirlpool cookers are offered for around the $1,000 mark, and GE’s price ranges from $1,500 to over $4000.
It’s worth noting that neither of the cookers that we’ve just compared showed up on the manufacturers’ respective websites, but instead we had to search for them. In fact, they would be rather difficult to find if you didn’t know what you were looking for.
Also, remember to calculate the shipping cost for your cooker. As appliances are rather heavy, the cost of shipping could be higher than you first expect. Some places that you can buy these cookers offer free shipping, but it’s worth remembering that you could face an extra charge.
Warranty
GE offers a warranty on all of their appliances, including one year for their ranges, cooktops, and built-in ovens. This warranty covers defects in the manufacturing process and will offer you a free replacement of the faltered part.
CleanDesign ranges also include this as well as an additional four-year warranty for the glass cooktop. If this should crack or wear prematurely, it will be replaced. This additional warranty does not cover any faults that should occur from the manufacturing process.
Whirlpool offers a two-year manufacturers warranty on all of their appliances, including their cookers, as well as a 10-year guarantee for any parts that you may need replacing. Just make sure that you register your cooker to ensure that you’re protected by the warranty.
As you can see, Whirlpool offers a more generous warranty as well as a longer parts guarantee. GE doesn’t offer the latter for the majority of its cookers, which is definitely something to think about.
Do they not offer this because their cookers don’t need an additional warranty, or is it simply a poor warranty? If you don’t want to risk finding out, Whirlpool is the brand to go with for more security for your money.
Burners
GE offers a number of different cookers on their website, including electric, gas, dual-fuel, induction, and double-oven ranges. Whether you would prefer to use gas or electric burners, GE has you covered here. With 170 ranges available, you’re sure to find one with the perfect amount of burners for you.
All GE cookers offer burners of different sizes which are cleverly placed to make the most of the space. Instead of a traditional four-burner cooktop, it’s not uncommon to find GE cookers with five or more burners on their website.
Now here’s where it gets a little interesting. Whirlpool’s website offers 41 of their ovens - seven of which are all designed to either be built into or under your counters. This means that none of these seven actually come with a stovetop with burners.
That being said, the other 34 cookers are either single or double freestanding models, and luckily, these come with burners! Similarly to GE, Whirlpool offers both electric and gas cookers, each coming with four to six burners. Both GE and Whirlpool come out on top in regards to their burners.
Customer Testimonials
The GE Profile™ 30" Smart Slide-In Front-Control Gas cooker is one of the highest-rated models on the GE website, with customers stating that it ‘looks great in the kitchen’, is ‘easy to clean’, and offers ‘amazing functionality’.
On the other hand, the 5.3 cu. ft. Freestanding Electric Range is another highly-rated cooker from Whirlpool, with reviews reading that the ‘stove is by far the best I have used’, it has ‘great features and sounds’, and offers ‘a nice even heat’.
Searching up both GE and Whirlpool, you’ll see that GE is the more relied upon brand out of the two. That being said, with the amount of great ratings on both of their websites for the different ranges that they offer, we think that both manufacturers have impressive customer reviews.
Additional Features
With a higher-priced cooker, you’d expect your model to include some impressive features, right? Well, GE has not disappointed in this aspect. Let’s take the GE Profile™ 30" Smart Free-Standing Electric cooker as an example here. This oven allows you to air-fry foods without preheating it, offering you healthy alternatives to your favorite foods.
This cooker has built-in wifi so you can control it from different rooms in the house using your phone, and countless features to ensure that the cooking process is as simple as possible for you. The stainless steel exterior is fingerprint-resistant to keep your kitchen looking sleek and clean.
Comparing this to a similar model from Whirlpool, the 5.3 cu. ft. Whirlpool® electric range is less expensive than the alternative, and this can be seen in the number of features. This oven offers you a shorter cooking time for frozen foods, a warming plate feature to prevent burning your pans and dishes, and a large oven window.
Both GE and Whirlpool ovens offer easy cleaning features. The GE oven steam cleans the inside of the cooker if you choose for it to, and the Whirlpool option has a pre-programmed cycle that cleans the oven for you.
As you can see, you get what you pay for in terms of additional features. However, we will say that it depends on each individual oven as some offer better options than others. As a rule of thumb, GE appliances tend to offer the user more impressive features than Whirlpool cookers.
Final Say
Reflecting on everything we’ve looked at today, neither GE or Whirlpool cookers have come out on top in our eyes. GE cookers are better for people who are willing to spend more money on a higher number of features, whereas Whirlpool ovens are better suited for people who value a better warranty and price.
Both of the GE and Whirlpool cookers available on the market offer a similar amount of burners, can come with either gas or electric capabilities, and large oven doors so that you can see your food cooking.
We’d suggest looking into both brands when looking for a new oven - there are no particularly worrying customer reviews for either brand. For this reason, we’d be willing to suggest that whether you end up with a GE or Whirlpool appliance, you’ll be getting a high-quality, great performing cooker.
