The 30'' single electric wall oven with self cleaning by GE offers two ovens in one -- the bottom is 2.8 cu. ft and the top is 2.2 cu. ft. It also comes with a convection system for the lower oven, pizza mode, lower oven self cleaning, and slow-cook mode. Overall, this is a unique oven with a bunch of cutting edge features for those that want them. Most reviewers give it high marks, and the uncommon negative review mentions durability issues.
Recently moved into a new house and replaced the single oven with this double that fits in a single space. We had it in our previous home and I love it! This is the second one of these we have purchased in the last 5 years due to a home remodel and then moving, I use the small oven the majority of the time and it pre-heats quickly. Great oven for cooking holiday meals like turkey and dressing. The bottom oven is perfect for the turkey while the top oven works great for all the sides. Best idea ever to create a double oven that fits in the same space as a single!View More Reviews
This oven replaced a 20+ year old oven. Wish I had done it sooner. It works as well as advertised and then some.
We had this oven for 6 years at our previous house and loved it. Those that say you cannot cook a 20 lb turkey in the oven are just wrong. I have cooked numerous 20 lb turkeys in this oven. When we moved into our new house in 2016 we were disappointed that it had a smaller Bosch "30 inch" oven. To our luck, that over priced German appliance had the temp sensor go out and the warranty folks had to replace it. We paid a little extra to upgrade to get this GE PT925SNSS double oven for a second time we loved it so much!
I absolutely love this oven. The only flaw is that the heating coils are fixed to the bottom of each chamber, and are NOT on a hinge. This makes it impossible to wipe or clean the bottom of the oven. Every oven I've ever had previous to this one has had the coils on a hinge to lift for cleaning. This oven cooks very well, but get used to having an icky, ash mess on the bottom because it is impossible to wipe clean.
I have always wanted two ovens and for me this unit works in the space I have. The larger oven can cook a 15 lb turkey thanks to the convection feature and being able to put pan on lowest shelf. My oven was not calibrated when installed and I found that I needed to add approx. 5 more minutes before using when preheating. Top oven is super useful for most everything and I use it all the time rather than heating up the bigger oven. It does have two racks but when rack on lowest level, it is a bit difficult to pull out so be sure to open door all the way and use the handles.
PROS: - Ideal for 1-6 family members for moderate to high amounts of cooking, requiring various oven functions, especially when space doesn't allow for 2 standard-size wall ovens. - Smaller (upper) oven is ideal for casseroles and re-heating food. - Larger (lower) oven comfortably accommodates a 13 lb. turkey. - More energy efficient than standard single or double-oven, because it's oven cavities are smaller, requiring less heat. - I've had mine for 5 years, and continues to work accurately CONS: - Difficult to read and confusing control panel. Be sure to have adequate overhead lighting to see controls. Pay close attention when operating controls, so as to not mistakenly operate some of the functions on the upper oven, if you meant to operate the lower oven... a common issue with my household. - Racks are a bit flimsy to slide, and hold heavier items like a 4-qt. cast-iron cocotte w/ lid (dutch oven). Racks tend to bend down and come in contact with the bottom heating element. - Height of larger (lower) oven cannot accommodate a stand-up chicken/hen for vertical roasting. Alternative would be to use this cooking method on an outdoor grill. - Self-cleaning function emits a strong gas, to the point our eyes and throats start burning, and therefore have to open doors and windows. Recommend self-clean ovens at different times. SUMMARY: If you're looking for efficient use of kitchen space, I highly recommend this oven. I wish we could order higher grade racks, that were more durable and slide easier.
I really do like this oven. I love the fact that it has a smaller top oven for everyday use and a larger lower oven for bigger meals. However, the controls are SO HARD TO READ, it drives me crazy! Honestly, it is not backlit and the print is small and light. I'm in my mid 50's with 20/20 vision and I have to have a flashlight or reading glasses to set it. I can't believe this oven passed inspection. It would have been so easy to make it with bold print, or have it back lit. But no ... every single time you use it, you have to struggle to read the control buttons. Very frustrating. As much as I like the way it cooks, I will be buying a different oven in the very near future.
This oven is great in that the double oven feature works great. It is a great idea with one major design flaw. All the controls (which are electronic) for the oven are in the top door, which has a row of slots along the top for ventilation and a slot on the bottom. If you spill anything on the oven door (like we did) and it runs into these slots you will short out the entire oven. Fortunately for us our oven was only three days old and GE covered the $600 repair. If you must buy this oven buy the maximum extended warranty available unless you never anticipate spilling anything on the top door.
