The 6.4 cu ft gas range with self-cleaning convection oven by GE is one of our highest rated gas ranges. Its cooktop comes with 5 gas burners: 1 large 20000 BTU tri-ring burner and an integrated non-stick griddle. The oven offers self cleaning, a gas convection oven, and 3 heavy duty racks. Overall, this is a great range that fits the needs of most everyone that wants a gas cooktop.

Upgraded to this model from a previous GE range. The PowerBoil feature on two of the burners is great - super fast. Similarly the simmer feature on one of the burners is useful. Appearance is great. Must clean carefully without using abrasive brushes/pads etc. Cleans easily without those anyway.View More Reviews
Love the stove but am disappointed that it scratches soooo easily on the top. Have heard this complaint from others about this product . Would not recommend this model if there are young children in the house. Burners are accessible.
I've had the range for 18 months now and with daily use, still just as happy with it as the day it arrived! I love my power boil function, and baking drawer is great for when you need 2 ovens!! Love it!
I upgraded my kitchen with all stainless steel appliance and love this GE Café gas range. It looks beautiful and cooks like a pro.
Just bought this range for my new kitchen and I am so happy I did. I cook every night and this range can stand up to everything!
I am extremely happy with this gas range! The oven is a great size and the cooktop is very functional...
After reading many reviews and comparing ranges of different manufacturers I finally decided to purchase the GE Cafe because it had all the features I wanted. The one thing that held me back was the complaints of the fan. Now having used the stove I can tell you that the fan is hardly noticeable and that people who are complaining about their fan noise probably need GE service to visit them and correct something. The convection fan only goes on when you are convection roasting or convection baking. The second fan goes on when you are baking or roasting at high temperatures. Even with both of them on, I don't even notice it unless i'm thinking about it. It is not irritating or annoying. All convection cooking requires a fan to circulate the air. The only problem I see is that the stove top scratches easily and one has to be very careful not to allow the gratings to scratch the top of the stove when removing them. A little extra care will avoid trouble. The stove performs beautifully and because the oven is so large, I was shocked to see how much could be cooked at once when making a big meal. It is a pleasure to use and I highly recommend it because the features are outstanding.
The gourmet creations I've developed with this model...flawless!
I love my stove! I have had it for only 4 months now but I use it daily and have become familiar with what it can do. I love how the grates on top go all the way across the top of the stove. My old stove had no grate in the center so it was easy for things to fall off the grates while canning or moving heavy pots. The oven seems huge to me and with 3 racks rather than the typical 2, I am able to easily bake multiple pizzas or several other dishes at once for my large family. I really wanted the 3rd oven in the bottom so I could bake more things at the same time but with the extra oven rack, I haven't even needed to use the bottom baking drawer yet! I am looking forward to using it for Thanksgiving when I will need to bake multiple things at different temperatures. I was not familiar with convection baking when I purchased the oven so it took a little trial and error to bake things correctly using it. But now I love it. Things bake more quickly and they are done beautifully. I love the professional look of the oven, I love the way it bakes, I love the way it cooks. I am very happy with my purchase! Ever since this has been installed I have reignited my passion for cooking. There is nothing better then a burner that can throw 20k BTU's for a perfect sear. I love this range!!!
We bought this as an upgrade from an old electric as part of a major kitchen remodel. The five burners give flexibility when cooking. Water boils very quickly. Soups and sauces can be turned down to a simmer without the risk of burning the bottom of the pots. The oven turns on and preheats very quickly. Accurate temperature control. Easy cleanup and an overall great looking appliance.
This is a great store. I have been using one for years at my parents house and now I finally have my own. This thing is a tank.
we like the new range very much, it is our first gas range.
OK, I don't do much of the cooking, my wife does. But since we have gotten this stove the food she cooks, excellent before, has become better. This is due to this oven's ability to cook everything completely and evenly. As I stated I am no expert, but the oven is easy to use (even for me to heat fish sticks, chicken nuggets, etc). The burners heat the pans evenly so my eggs don't burn or cook faster on one side. The griddle is awesome for cooking pancakes, bacon, and fish. Also, it looks really awesome, I mean, look at the thing, it is very very cool looking and you don't have to pay crazy high price for it. All around I am completely satisfied. To the people who complain about the fan noise. Yes, there is a fan, yes it sounds like a fan. No it is not LOUD and is not distracting. But, I also have two children who could probably drown out the noise of a Super Bowl crowd, not that they are always around when I am cooking.
We replaced a 10 year old high end slide in range, so I am comparing high end to high end. First, the oven temp control and heat distribution is excellent. I make pizza all the time and the browning is even from front to back. I just wish it would go higher than 525. Even at 525, the front of the stove is only warm to the touch, it never gets hot. The old one got so hot you could barely touch the control panel. We use the convection all the time, it not only speeds cooking times, but it will give a rib roast a nice outside browning. The front super burner needs a very wide to capture the large flame. It boils water faster than any I have used. The true test, however, is very low simmer. The old stove only had one burner that would go to a simmer level and stay lit, all 4 on this stove can go to a low simmer and stay lite. The small burner in the rear can go below a simmer and keep something warm. All 4 of the main burners have an excellent range of high heat to low simmer. The range of movement of the knobs, does not match the level of flame, so for most of the range of movement there is little change in flame. The center burner griddle works very well. I have yet to set above 3 for pancakes or sandwiches, just remember that you have to preheat any griddle before cooking. I cook meat outside even in Feb when it is 10 deg outside, so I have no idea how well this works for meat, but based on the low setting, I think the griddle would get more than hot enough. Some have complained about the fan that turns on once the oven reaches a certain temperature. This fan keeps the back of the stove cool. Our old stove did not have this feature and the back vent area got so hot you could not touch it for even 1 second. While I would have liked a bit quieter fan, low profile stoves that have rear vents do require air circulation for safety. We have not used the keep warm oven on the bottom, we use it for storage. Overall, we are very pleased with this stove. Appearance is subjective, but performance is not. This unit performs better than I expected. Like any tool, you need to learn how to take advantage of the features and burner performance
Pros: A great range. 2 hi BTU burners, that can bring a large pot to boil in just a couple minutes. The highest BTU burner also works great in a simmer setting which gives a flexibility in use of the range. The simmer burner that keeps an even flame. Excellent convection performance for the oven cooking a 20lb turkey evenly and easily. Continuous grates make good use of range. Other plus over ranges like Bertazzoni that do not allow for self cleaning. Cons: Broiler is uneven and browning takes time. Stainless steel takes time to clean and takes greater care. Warming drawer can dent easily. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I love this Range. The large tri-ring burner is so powerful! The simmer burner great for sauces. This unit is well made, and fits into my kitchen beautifully. I love the baking drawer for appetizers etc while the main oven is working on my entree. The griddle insert is popular at breakfast or for a quick quesadilla. Nice job!
We went from a ceramic top electric to this gas model and could not be more pleased. Love the glass touch screen (the cheaper model had the cheaper touch screen that would wear out quickly). I also love the bottom drawer that you can actually bake in (not just a warmer). It really came in handy at Christmas.
Purchased this range to replace an existing range in our new home. The old range was an artisy Italian range that was probably purchased by the previous owners for the look versus function. Now, I have the looks and function with my new GE Cafe range. I love the control panel in the front...no more reaching across a hot range to get to the control panel. The oven cooks with amazing precision. And the cooktop, boils water so quickly, making quick dinner prep so easy. The oven fan is a little noisy when cooking at temps over 400 degrees, but that does not really bother me to much. Overall, I love it and it looks great in my kitchen. I am now replacing my other appliances with GE Cafe products to complete the look.
I just had this beauty installed, and it is everything the reviews said it was. For the record, I am an enthusiastic amateur cook. I make most of the meals in our three human family, and I am constantly trying new recipes and variations of old recipes. The one thing that I hear pros talking about amateur cooks is that they don't cook on high enough heat. Well, no worries here. This baby delivers intense heat, but also rocks it back nicely for gentle simmers. After only 5 or 6 meals (stove top and oven), I can firmly attest that higher heat produces better results, and better taste (once you learn to control it). As far as features, well, I love the simplicity yet elegance of the functionality and design. The thing is a beast, very well made, feels and looks heavy. The timer and oven controls are easy to read and use. The big burner knobs are fluid and also easy to read. The stove top is a dream (especially for someone that has never had an edge to edge stove before) in moving things around and amount of burners. The included griddle is great for pancakes. The bottom small oven/warmer is a bonus, as is the oval center burner. The only thing that I heard in some other comments that may be true is that it may prove to be a bit hard to clean. I already had some food spill on the edge of the burners, and took a bit to get the burned-on stuff off. I also wonder why little nooks and crannies can't be better covered. But that is minimal. Get a can of bartenders friend and you're golden. Overall, I love this appliance. And with a beautiful new stainless range hood, the centerpiece of the kitchen has as much beauty as it has function.
This is our first gas range and it does not disappoint. Heating up skillets and pans is a good 4-5 minutes faster than our old glass cooktop. The oven and bakers drawer heat up fast and the convection bakes cookies evenly. The oven will be put to a lot of use over the holidays.
Love this new gas range! It is so easy to use and looks great. The bottom baking drawer is electric with gas used in the bigger oven. We use propane and the conversion from natural gas to propane was very well detailed in the instructions and easy to do.
Loving it. The layout of the stovetop is great and it looks awesome, almost like a pro-style range. Neat features include he griddle that comes with it, the built-in meat thermometer, the baking drawer and the power boil setting on the front burner.
I have been using this in my new home and it is simply amazing. The center burner option is awesome. The burners are so well designed that the heat is spread equally. The oven options are all really handy and takes very less time to pre-heat it.
This range is a really nice looking appliance that works great. The bottom drawer oven is so nice and a better use of space than a storage drawer would be but it looks like a storage drawer. The cook top is nice too. It is just a great range.
I purchased this stove to complete my GE Café set and I love the stove. The tri-ring burner is great. The look of the stove is outstanding. I can't wait for the Christmas season to really put the second lower oven to use baking cookies.
A+. I add this one month ago and was very happy with the features and looks. Water boils very quickly in the quick boil setting and the oven is easy to use and spacious. We have used GE Profile appliances in the past as we trusted both their looks and features and this GE Café Series blends very well with them.
I have been way impressed with my new oven so far. Not only does it look beautiful in my kitchen, but it works fabulously. The power boil feature is wonderful--I can boil things so much faster than before that I have to watch closer to prevent it from boiling over! I love the center griddle. I read complaints about it not being hot enough but I wonder if people are putting it on top of the center grate. You have to take out the center grate in order to insert the griddle. I warmed it up while I made my pancake batter and it was ready to go when I was! I baked bread and it turned out beautifully. I read complaints about the fan noise and the sensitivity on the touch pad. I have not had an issue with either one. The fan is noticeable but not overbearing--normal for a convection oven. And I haven't had any issue at all with the touch pad being too sensitive. I haven't tried everything out yet but so far I LOVE my new range.
We purchased this oven because of the features that it has and will fit where our old oven was. We had the old oven for 37 years and this is as close as we could find to what we needed.
Works wonderfull, quality is great has everything i needed
I love gas stoves & the burners are easy to clean & cook very well. The best feature is the middle griddle, which I use frequently. The warming oven below is handy.
I have had this range for four months and my wife and I love it. The grill plate over the center burner is wonderful for making grill cheese sandwiches or bacon.
I bought this appliance and just had it installed today and I love it already! My daughter made made tea and loves the power boil feature!
Looks great in our new kitchen with the rest of the GE Cafe line
Very sold, quiet and easy to setup. No noise when the convection oven is working. The flame is powerful and beautiful Blue, without adjustments. I am impressed so far. The knobs are not steel but they look great and solid. No flaws that I can point out so far.
i purchased this stove 8 years ago...thrilled with performance and it was time to replace and purchased it again!
Still new but this stove cooks great and cleans easy. The front right burner boils water faster. very satisfied
Beautiful to look at. Easy to hook up. Works like a charm and has the griddle. Everything you could want.
This unit is wonderful. I bake a lot and once you figure out where the hot spots are it performs great.
LOVING THE FEATURES ON THIS BEAUTIFUL RANGE. INSTALLER SAID HE BOUGHT THE SAME RANGE FOR HIS MOM.
Best appliance we have ever purchased! I would recommend it to anyone.
Had this range installed in my new kitchen almost one month ago. It looks great, the issues I had are: specs are not true to actual measurements of the appliance. Had to have my counter contractor return to widen the opening so the stove could slide in. Secondly, the rear of the stove has screws that stick out, just enough so it is not a flush fit. Need to have a trim kit....which GE does NOT provide or tell you about. So, now, I have this visible gap, where stuff can fall in to. I tried to explain this and they kept saying, "the manual states measurements are..." Yes, I know. They didn't own the appliance or have it in front of them, so how could they insist the measurements were exact, or correct? Very frustrating trying to reason with them. Functionality...nice, efficient - except for the "warming" drawer. They stated you can bake in it, up to a certain temp. I found it best if used only as a "warming" drawer, otherwise you are baking blindly. It takes a long time to heat up, and unless you're watching, you never know when the required temp is reached. Stainless...the beautiful top surfaces scratches very, very, easily. The cast iron burners are heavy and snug, any wiggle results in deep scratches. I tried contacting GE, as they suggested. but only received automated "someone will get back to you" emails.
you need to have light in front, so you can see all the little circle .
Bought over a month ago and so far like the product. Haven't used the lower oven yet, but that is what sold me on the product. Stainless steel is soft, but overall nice. I really like the two ovens. I also like the porcelain oven grills.
So far, extremely happy! Cooks very nicely and looks great.
The first oven had a gas leak but GE and store I purchased from worked together to replace the defective oven and the second one is good. I like the burners and baking drawer.
very disappointed that the panel does not light up and is hard to read
I looked at a number of alternatives by other manufacturers before settling on the Cafe. Money was not a major consideration, and I could have spent more on others. Had I done so, it would have been for the panache associated with other mabufacturers, as the Cafe performs as well, if not better, than all others. I've read the complaints about oven noise, and frankly don't share those views. All convection ovens make some noise, and I don't find the Cafe's to be any worse than others. The overall performance and versatility can't be matched. "Warming Oven" is a misnomer, as the fact that it can be set as high as 400 allows it to be used as a second oven. My only complaint is that it scratches like crazy no matter how careful you are.
I've been cooking on my new all gas range for several months. I love the flame and temperature control I can get with both front burners. The only drawback is the shiny stainless steel surface under the burners. It shows spatter ever time the burner is used and it often streaks as I clean it. I would prefer a darker surface as it would look better over time and be easier to keep clean. The oven heats correctly in the center of the middle. But, it the rack is above or below center the temperature changes by several degrees. Sometimes using the convection function helps even out the temperature throughout the oven. Overall I am pleased with my new range!
Purchased with a gas oven. Having to learn how to cook in a gas oven. It is a little different. Top burners work great. Easy to clean. Looks great in my new kitchen. Using LP gas and seems to work fine.
Everything I read about this range lived up to the glowing remarks. Good heat options, well designed, great oven. In other words, cooking on it is a dream. But I am baffled at how easy it is to look dirty, and how hard it is to keep clean. The burner rings seem to draw black soot and absorb food. I have owned this GE for about 4 months now, and have already given up keeping them clean. The seems of the top to sides have nooks and crannies where food spills build up. How hard would it be to have those sealed? Also, the top scratches too easily. I already have deep lines from the grates not being perfectly aligned. Shouldn't happen. Overall, a terrific range, I so not regret the decision. But hopefully 20 years from now when I buy my next range I will pick one that performs AND cleans easily, scratch-free.
We've had this stove for several months now, and so far we are very pleased with it. We should have read the instruction to coat everything with ceramic cleaner before we used the stove, as getting some of the stains off has not been easy. One of the little rubber pads melted off the grate when I used the power burner to heat a kettle for hot water bath canning. The controls are easy to use. I love that there's a little beep when I forget to hit "start" after setting the oven temperature.
Had our GE Cafe range installed just under a month cooks great, range heats evenly and oven heats fast. BUT, the exhuast noise from the oven is outrageously noisy. Not necessarily obnoxious but enough to need talk a little louder when its on.
I bought this product for my wife for Christmas it smelled as though it was leaking gas. So the gas had to be turned off until someone could check it out which took a week. It turns out the stove has that smell until it's broken in. The stainless steel gets stains that's hard to remove.
This stove came with our home. It is a pretty good product but the oven cleaning program doesn't work as well as our electric oven.
Looks beautiful, cleans easily, love the delay start, don't care for convection cooking, and the burner power is amazing!
Love the unit. It came missing a part so I've been without a part for yet another 7 days (total 4 weeks). Irks me that the delivery folks can't install the propane conversion. GE CS rude with my install guy when trying to figure all out.. Very frustrating. Im looking forward to an operating stove!
Grill scratches the stove top stainless steel quite easily so be careful. Burner caps discolor the first few times you use them and the stains or what ever it iw won't come off. GE sent us several replacement caps but they all do the same thing. The oven quit working in the first month of ownership. Technician was checking the oven and had to remove the lower oven drawer. It broke when he pulled it out. GE did agree to replace the stove. We are hoping the second is better than the first but we noticed the burner caps have the disclosing problem. Oh well.
The oven Quality is great, ill say that ...However , I bought this oven thinking it was a actually a slide-in as its labeled..It is not ! IT DOES DOT HAVE THE SIDE FLANGES THAT GO OVER YOUR COUNTER TOP EDGES, THAT PREVENT FOOD AND SPILLS FROM GOING DOWN THE SIDES OF THE OVEN... This is a standard feature for all the other "slide ins " in the world... So, now you have to shop for counter top trim pieces that look and work just right... .. Also, To GE: the links for the various manuals on this GE website misdirect you. They are not for this cgs985setss model...(I figured this out, after i installed a 120v wall socket, in wall wiring, and circuit breaker. Upon installation, SUPRISE its a 220v oven..)..I had to rewire again for a 220v...Thank you so much.
I have used the GE Cafe range for appx two years. The fan is a little loud. The stove top grates easily scratch the stainless. The control touch pad is extremely sensitive, it has been turned off by accident if you happen to lean to reach for something and your. body touches it. The heat from the stove top has melted the laminate on the cabinet doors that are above the range. I love the appearance. I also like the simmer burner and wish there were two simmer burners It has also damaged the handles on my cookware.. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The large burners are too intense to use a small pot. Therefore you need to cook on the back burner with a small pot. If you use the large front burners on low, the heat is concentrated in the center of the pot and burns food
I ordered this stove because I liked the burner layout. The first one that was delivered was bent one the front panel so I sent it back. The second one that was delivered was also damaged so I canceled the order and ordered a Samsung. The Samsung is a little bit more money but it came undamaged. It also has some other features that I like. So GE did me a favor by sending me 2 damaged stoves.
I love this oven, but we have had a lot of service issues in the one year we have had it...replaced the control panel twice, fan once, burner once...now have to call again to get another control panel...it's great if I don't broil or try to clean it!!
The two oven feature on the Cafe is very good, also the five burners. The only negative is the extreme noise from the exhaust fan, located at the rear right burner. Called for service & had fan replaced no better, had the entire unit replaced no better. The noise comes on @ about 375 degrees and stays on the entire time of cooking and stays on until the oven cools to about 200 degrees. Looking for a new oven, just can't deal with the noise.
We just renovated our kitchen, had a GE profile which was half the price of this oven and we loved it for 9 years, figured how could we go wrong with another GE oven. The fan runs throughout the cooking cycle (and we are not talking convection mode) and then about 20 minutes after, it is absolutely terrible, it is as annoying as a running toilet. It has ruined my love of cooking, we waited many years for a new kitchen and now we face the hassle of a return and finding a stove that will fit as well with our new countertop which was custom cut for the Cafe stove. We do have a repair scheduled Jan 9th, if it is fixed I will update.
So far we have been disappointed with the baking aspect in the oven. The convection bake mode does not convert when a traditional oven degree temperature is entered. We have tried this option many times and have been unable to use the convection feature. Our bagged Thanksgiving turkey took over six hours (rather than 3 1/2) to cook at a traditional 350 degrees. This was unacceptable since we had company. We have purchased and tested an oven thermometer, and find that the oven takes much longer to preheat than indicated on the stove display. At the display point the 350 degree oven is actually 260 degrees, a 400 degree oven is actually 325 degrees etc !!
This range is great but does not fit into a 30 inch opening
The oven vents along the back blows EXTREMELY hot air toward the front of the stove making it uncomfortable to stand and use the burners. I used a stainless lid to simply direct the air to the side (not to cover the holes) and it was so hot a potholder was needed to move it. I cracked a window in 30 degree temps to cool my kitchen. I cannot imagine using this oven in the summer.
